Chapter 229 Brace for the Storm
Curtis had risked everything that should have been his to begin with.
How could he be so foolish?

“Curtis has offended many people,” Justin warned Adriana quietly. “Tomorrow, once his grandfather holds that press conference and announces Curtis is leaving Lincoln Group, the vultures will come right away. If you want to stand by his side, you’d better be unbreakable.”
It was a reminder to brace for the storm.
In a restaurant, Jeremy had chosen a private kitchen that only accepted one table a day.
It wasn’t huge, but it was safe and quiet.
He had come to see Adriana in total secrecy, and he had to avoid everyone.
Jeremy traveling to Haldoria was already risky. If Danielle or Chandler ever found out he met Adriana here now, it would only cause trouble.
Justin stood outside the door and nodded to Adriana. She should go in alone.
She hesitated, then stepped in.
“Mr. Barton,” she greeted politely.
Jeremy’s eyes were slightly red. He looked at her for a long moment, almost lost in thought, unable to speak.
Adriana felt confused. “Mr. Barton?”
“Mr. Barton, the coffee is getting cold. I’ll go get it refilled.” Justin walked over and gently reminded him. He lifted the pot and walked out, leaving them alone.
Jeremy finally came back to himself and smiled faintly. “The reason I asked you here is simple. I wondered if you’d consider divorcing Curtis.”
Adriana lowered her gaze. As expected, he wanted her to leave Curtis.
Seeing her face pale a little, Jeremy rushed to explain. “I’m not trying to pressure you. I just want to hear your thoughts. Is there real love between you two? Or is it about the marriage contract and the money?”

Jeremy wanted Adriana to make her own choice. If she didn’t truly like Curtis and was only with him because of money, then they shouldn’t stay married. He wanted her to decide for herself.
“I don’t care whether Curtis is the heir of Lincoln Group or not; as long as he doesn’t want a divorce, I will never leave him,” Adriana said seriously.
“So you do have feelings for him?” Jeremy nodded, satisfied. He had always liked Curtis to marry his granddaughter. When he learned Adriana was his granddaughter, he had been thrilled.
This had to be destiny.
Maybe his family was meant to have Curtis as their son–in–law.
“Do you know,” Jeremy continued, “his grandfather has found a new grandson? A very capable young man. People say he’s excellent and he’ll inherit everything. That means Curtis has basically been pushed out of the family.” Jeremy sighed. He felt Harold had made a foolish choice.
But old people can be selfish. He couldn’t change that.
“I know,” Adriana said firmly. “No matter where Curtis stands, as long as he stays true to our love, I won’t leave him.”
Unless Curtis stopped loving her, Adriana would never choose to walk away.
“You will leave for Pastalia sooner,” Jeremy said. “If Curtis has to start his own business, he’ll be very busy. Even if he takes a job at another company, it will take time for him to settle in. He might not have time to visit you. You might not see each other for a long time. Can you really trust that neither of you will change?”
Adriana went quiet for a moment before she nodded. “I believe in Curtis.”
“Very well,” Jeremy smiled and nodded. When Justin walked back in, he asked the waiter to start bringing in the food. “Eat more. Look how thin you are. Justin told me you’re pregnant again. You need to take care of yourself and the baby now. Don’t skip meals.”
Adriana looked at him in surprise. This was his reason to see her?
There was no pressure. No threats. No forcing her to leave Curtis.
Harborton.
