Danielle was shaking with rage, barely able to talk. The last thing she wanted to see was Adriana rising this high.
“Dad, what should we do? What did Mister say?” Danielle asked in panic. “We planned this for so long. We can’t just sit back and let Barton Group fall into Adriana’s hands.”
“Mister told us not to act rashly for now,” Chandler said meaningfully, looking at Danielle. “The person supporting Adriana is the hidden boss behind Ainsworth Group. It’s probably Gary. Before we act, we need to find out exactly who’s backing her.
“That old man isn’t dead yet. But even after he is, we can’t let Adriana take everything the Bartons own. As
she’ll long as we keep causing trouble, no judge can untangle a family fight like this. If she wants peace, have to give us something to shut us up.”
Chandler clenched his teeth. He was sure Adriana would be forced to hand over the businesses he had been managing.
He had already planned. In the hotel management division, many junior and mid–level staff were his people. With enough money, he could easily incite collective strikes. If Barton Group’s luxury hotel chains across the country were hit with strike scandals, the damage would be massive.
After all, those hotels served only the richest elites.
Danielle nodded. For now, they had no choice but to swallow their anger.
She stared at the emergency room doors with hatred, clenching her fists tightly. All they could do was wait for Jeremy to die.
She’d like to see how Adriana, an orphan raised with no support, could handle a giant like Barton Group.
“The priority now is to win over Justin,” Danielle said firmly. “As long as Justin doesn’t support Adriana inside the group, she won’t be able to do anything on her own.”
Right now, she could only pin all her hopes on Justin.
Emergency room.
Jeremy was barely holding on, but he lasted long enough to see his granddaughter.
Adriana’s eyes burned as tears filled them.
“Grandpa…” she called softly, her voice breaking.

That single word seemed to be what he’d been waiting for.
When she called him that, Jeremy’s cloudy eyes cleared.
With the last of his strength, he slowly lifted his skinny hand and grasped Adriana’s.
“Grandpa, please get better. Adriana sobbed. “I just came home. I can’t lose you.”
She couldn’t bear coming back only to be left alone again.

Growing up in the orphanage, she had imagined being found by her family, finally having a home.
But when it finally happened, that home was empty. There was no one left but her.
It felt like a knife had been driven straight into her heart.
Her parents were murdered. She was dumped in an orphanage on purpose. After all those years, she finally returned–only to find nobody waiting for her.
“Nicole…” Jeremy called her by the name her parents had given her.
“Grandpa, I’m here.” Adriana gripped his hand tightly.
Talking was already hard for him. Everyone could see he had so much he wanted to tell his granddaughter, but he had no strength left.
Nearby, Justin had the lawyer read out loud the full inheritance and plans for Barton Group. From company shares and funds to collectibles, movable and immovable assets, estates, and overseas properties -everything would go to Adriana.
Chandler and Danielle would receive nothing.
“Mr. Barton, are you truly leaving Chandler and Danielle nothing?” Philip Coleman, one of Jeremy’s closest aides, asked quietly. “They won’t give up easily. Nicole just came back…”
As one of the founders, Philip worried Chandler would cause chaos.
On top of that, the other senior execs who didn’t know the full story might see Jeremy as cruel. After all, Chandler was still his son, yet Jeremy had left him nothing.
Even leaving a little could have prevented trouble later.
Jeremy looked at Philip and forced the words out. “Nicole’s parents… were killed by him…”
The rage in his voice made the words sound almost like a roar tearing from his throat.
“Grandpa, please don’t get worked up…” Adriana burst into tears as she tried to calm him.
Justin quickly stepped in. “Philip, we already have evidence. Chandler was the one who hired the hitman.”
Philip and the other executives exchanged stunned glances, drawing in sharp breaths.

No wonder Jeremy could be so harsh.
Chandler had been brutal enough to kill his brother.
“Then why hasn’t he been arrested yet?” Philip asked urgently.
“Now isn’t the time,” Justin said quietly.

Chandler’s crimes were worse than that. Even though the hitman had confessed, he was mentally unstable. After so many years, solid proof was still missing. Taking Chandler down in one clean move wouldn’t be
easy.
