Chapter 393 Thomas Hill
At the lounge.
Adriana sat in a chair off to the side, watching the lively buzz and chatter of the banquet.

A few years earlier, she had been Matthew’s secret girlfriend, someone no one could know about. When she went with him to events, she could only show up as his assistant. She stayed cautious all the time, afraid of making even the smallest mistake, never letting herself relax. Now she was one of the most important guests in the room, yet the whole event somehow felt boring and
empty.
“Ms. Xander, would it be okay if I called you Adriana? I hope that’s not rude,” Silas said, speaking first as he looked at her.
Adriana smiled. The way he’d said it made refusing feel awkward and forced. “Sure.”
“Isn’t there anything you want to ask me?” Silas asked, his voice calm and sincere. “If there’s something about me that could help you, I’d be glad to tell you.”
That made Adriana a little curious. From a logical point of view, this man worked for the mysterious person pulling the strings behind the scenes. Sooner or later, she and Silas were bound to end up on opposite sides. He had already taken control of the Lincoln Group, and his next move would likely be the Barton Group that Adriana now controlled.
It was only natural for her to stay on guard around him. And yet, he seemed completely open and unprotected in front of her.
If he wasn’t a skilled actor, then he was incredibly cunning.
Adriana stayed silent for a moment. His honesty and the way he told her to ask anything made her own guarded attitude feel almost unfair.
She really was wary of him, and she knew she was judging him with a biased view.
“What did you mean by giving me that hair clip?” Adriana asked, confused.
“We knew each other before you were adopted by that couple in Govendale.” Silas’s gaze grew distant as he lowered his eyes, as if he was drifting back into an old memory.
He wanted to say that he had known Adriana even earlier than Matthew and Curtis had.
Adriana froze and stared at him. “What … do you mean?”
“Samuel had me late in life. My mother was a very practical woman. After she got what she wanted from the Harrisons, she left me there. By then, Samuel was already seriously ill. He had the nerve to father an illegitimate child in his old age, but not the courage to admit I existed. So after I returned, he dumped me at a remote orphanage in Haldoria…”
Silas spoke lightly, as if those past events had nothing to do with him anymore.
Samuel had not only been a highly respected businessman but also a once–renowned research expert. He valued his reputation throughout his life, and the fact that he had an illegitimate child at such an advanced age was clearly because he feared it would tarnish his reputation in his later years. He abandoned the child in a remote orphanage.
Adriana looked at Silas in shock.
The first time she met him, he had seemed familiar. She had thought she simply couldn’t place him.

But when he said he had lived in an orphanage too, something suddenly surfaced in her memory.
They really had been in the same orphanage.
Back then, Silas wasn’t called Silas. His name was Thomas Hill.
Hill was his mother’s last name.
