“Since she doesn’t want to go back, you can leave.” Justin’s voice carried a heavy warning as he looked at the bodyguards.
The men glanced at each other. None of them dared to cross Justin. They hurried out at once.
Danielle let out a breath and slumped to the floor, her eyes blank.
Her life. Her future. Right now, Justin could change it with a single word.
How pitiful.
In that moment, Danielle thought back on the first half of her life.
She even felt regret. Regret that, if she hadn’t schemed against Adriana out of jealousy and resentment… if she and Adriana could have become friends, sisters…
Would things have turned out differently?
But life doesn’t have “what ifs.”
She knew clearly that she had made mistakes. She knew she had only been a pawn for Chandler and Jeremy. She knew she had been foolish, blinded by jealousy.
But she also knew that her life had been decided from the day she was born. She couldn’t change it.
From her point of view, she wasn’t wrong. She was just trying to survive.
f she hadn’t plotted against Adriana, if she hadn’t fought and struggled, she would’ve been nothing more than a useless pawn in Chandler’s game. She might not have even lived to see this day.
Justin… my dad won’t let me off easily. Please help me. At least… let me stay by your side for now. I’ll listen to anything you say. I’ll lo whatever you want.” Danielle was soaked through, shivering nonstop. Her face was pale, drained of color from the cold. She ooked miserable and helpless.
Justin didn’t respond. There was no sign that he intended to let her stay.
Justin… she looks so pitiful.” Susan hid behind Justin, looking at Danielle with soft eyes.
Justin glanced at Susan gently, his voice warm. “Then let her stay. I still have work to do. You can handle the rest.”
After saying that, Justin turned and left. Only Susan remained in the doorway, a faint smile curling on her lips as she looked at Danielle.
Danielle clenched her fists tightly, jealousy burning in her chest. She forced down her anger and tried to stand and walk inside, but Susan blocked her path.
Susan smiled teasingly. “Ms. Barton, when you first came to see me, you acted so high and mighty, like you were doing me a favor. Why do you look so miserable now?”
Danielle held back her rage and said, “Don’t get too proud. You’re just a fake. Don’t forget–it was me and Savannah who gave you your identity. Otherwise, do you think you’d have the right to stand beside him? Aren’t you afraid I’ll tell Justin the truth?”

Susan let out a soft laugh. “You won’t. Justin hates you. If I hadn’t spoken up, he wouldn’t have let you stay at all. I’m the only reason you get to stay here and live. If you tell him the truth… can you really afford to?”
Susan had already figured out Danielle’s state of mind. Danielle wanted to survive. That meant her secret could never be exposed.
Danielle dug her nails into her palm. These were the consequences of her past mistakes. Now she had to face them.
“So let me remind you,” Susan whispered near Danielle’s ear, her voice sharp with warning. “You can stay. You can even ask Justin to help you. But don’t you dare try to get close to him. He belongs to me.”
Susan was an orphan. For money, she would do anything. She had been carefully chosen by Danielle and Savannah. When they found her, they thought she was just an orphan–easy to control.
But they had overlooked one thing. Susan was a woman full of ambition.
