Peggy watched Danielle with quiet concern. Justin had shown such attentiveness toward Susan lately. Danielle would likely find herself back on the street before sunset.
“Ms. Susan,” Peggy said gently, trying to smooth things over, “Ms. Barton didn’t mean any harm. Perhaps she could apologize?”
Susan’s hand remained pressed to her cheek, her expression contorted with fury. She shot Danielle a look that could curdle milk. “You’ll regret this.”
With that, she spun on her heel and ran upstairs, already pulling out her phone to call Justin.
Peggy sighed, turning to Danielle with worried eyes. “Mr. Hotchner has been quite devoted to her lately. I’ll explain what happened when he returns, but if he insists…”
If Justin demanded Danielle leave, there would be nothing anyone could do.
Danielle nodded, her face unreadable. “Thank you. I understand.”
If Justin asked her to go, she would go.
“Peggy, I’ll step out for a while. If anything comes up, I’ll explain everything to Justin tonight.”
Breakfast tasted like dust in her mouth. Even as she finished the meal, she was still uncertain whether she should meet Adriana.
Would Adriana even be willing to hear her out?
Danielle sat in silence for a long time before finally leaving Justin’s house.
Justin’s intervention had bought her some breathing room. Chandler would likely think twice before making another move so
soon.
From the bedroom window upstairs, Susan watched Danielle’s retreating figure. She waited until the gate closed behind her, then dialed. “She’s gone, Savannah. I overheard Justin and Danielle. I think Jeremy left her something. A letter. Whatever’s in it, it could be trouble for Mister.”
She ended the call and watched the empty street with satisfaction.
Danielle couldn’t stay. Not if Susan wanted to keep her place beside Justin.
At the Barton Group’s headquarters, Adriana was seated at the head of the conference table, listening as the room filled with heated debate. Recently, Chandler and Mister had begun moving more aggressively. Probably to pressure Adriana until she agreed to marry Silas. To achieve that goal, they had begun stirring up trouble wherever they could.
“What exactly is going on with Skyridge Materials? Julian Hale has worked with Barton Group for years. Our partnership covers Haldoria, Harborton, even overseas projects. If he suddenly pulls out now, the breach–of–contract penalties alone could crush us.”
The discussion grew louder. “Everyone knows he was closest to Chandler. This isn’t about business. It’s a message. He wants us to bring Chandler back.”
Adriana leaned back in her chair, saying nothing, watching them work their way toward the conclusion they were all circling.

Finally, a braver soul than the rest cleared his throat and addressed her directly Madle. This company wasn’t juzous two your grandfather’s life’s work. None of us wants to see it destroyed.”
Adriana inclined her head. “Say what you mean.
The man hesitated, then pressed forward. “What if we brought Chandler back? His methods were questionable, yes, but his results weren’t. When he ran the construction division, his cooperation with Julian Hale was extremely smooth. The company grew steadily during those years. If Barton Group survives, everyone here survives with i
Adriana said nothing Under her steady gaze, the man began to grow uneasy. Still, he forced himself to continue “No one doubts your abilities, Nicole.
