“Justin, are you really going to let her keep staying here? I’m just worried she’s emotionally unstable. What if she hits someone again…” Susan clearly knew Danielle had already come out, but she said it on purpose anyway.
Justin didn’t even lift his head. He only smiled gently. “Everything I have was given to me by Grandpa. One extra person here won’t make any difference. If being around her makes you uncomfortable, I can buy you a place of your own and put it under your name”
Susan’s eyes lit up for a second, but once she realized Justin meant he wanted her to move out, not Danielle, her face immediately stiffened in embarrassment.
She stayed quiet for a moment before speaking softly, “That’s not what I meant.”
Danielle waited until they were done talking before walking over. She said nothing, sat down directly, and quietly started eating breakfast.
Peggy smiled as she placed breakfast in front of Danielle–she even added an extra fried egg for her.
Susan was unhappy, but she didn’t say anything. She only claimed she had no appetite, then got up and went back to her room.

Maybe kindness really was a common weakness among religious people like Justin.
“Thanks. I’ll pay you back next month,” Danielle said. She didn’t refuse. Right now, she truly didn’t even have money for food.
Since Justin had given her the card, she secretly decided she’d pay him back with interest next month.
Justin looked at Danielle for a long time, his gaze sharp and probing, as if warning her not to start scheming again.
Danielle had no idea how to explain herself, so she simply lowered her head and obediently kept eating.
“I’m going to work now. Thanks.” That meal had been miserable. Danielle had no idea why Justin hadn’t left early that morning. Even after finishing his breakfast, he was still sitting there, which had kept her tense through the entire meal.
Her stomach had twisted so badly that it felt like she was about to get indigestion.
Despite her stomach condition, Danielle went back to her room, grabbed her bag, and got ready to leave for work. Before stepping out, she noticed a box of digestive tablets sitting on top of the shoe cabinet.
Danielle froze for a moment. She assumed Peggy had prepared it, and warmth rose in her chest. She thanked Peggy and left.
It felt like from that moment on, her life was finally starting over again.
She wanted to completely cut herself off from the past. She wanted to become a different person. She didn’t want to keep pleasing anyone anymore, and she didn’t need to put on a show for anyone either. She just needed to be hersell
