Chapter 163 The Truth Is Out

“Now that we’ve confirmed the caregiver was behind it and that Nella had nothing to do with it, we can finally breathe easy.”
Norris walked up to Nella and, to his credit, apologized promptly.
“Nella, I want to apologize to you. We were just worried about Patrick and jumped to conclusions, which led us to misunderstand you. We hope you can understand.”
“Heh. You want her to understand you now? When Ms. Mack had her dragged and cursed all over the internet, I didn’t see any of you trying to understand her!”
Caleb snorted coldly, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
Norris let out two awkward dry laughs. Seeing that Alfred had no intention of stepping in to smooth things over, he could only look at Nella with an embarrassed expression and say, “Nella, I’m really sorry. I hope you can forgive how impulsive we were earlier.”
Nella glanced at Zoey, then said, “Mr. Mack, I accept your apology. Since everything has been clearly investigated, shouldn’t Ms. Mack go online and apologize to me and the hospital?”
Zoey’s face changed instantly.
“I already said it was the caregiver’s fault. What does that have to do with me? Why should I apologize?”
Apologize on the internet for everyone to see?
What about my pride?
Seeing how unyielding Nella was, Zoey put on her familiar pitiful expression and looked at Alfred.
“Alfred, are you really going to let her keep pressuring me like this?”
Alfred’s hand resting on the back of Nella’s chair tapped lightly, slow and offhand.
His posture stayed relaxed, and he said nothing. No one could tell what he was thinking.
But Zoey grew more and more uneasy the longer he stayed silent.
If Nella had dared to act this aggressively toward her before, Alfred would’ve spoken up immediately.
She never even had to ask.
Now she’d already asked, and Alfred was still this cold.
Finally, Alfred stopped tapping the chair back.
He looked at Zoey and said, “That one million dollars in Martin’s account came from you.”
Alfred delivered the line in an even, matter-of-fact tone.
But to the Macks, it hit like a bolt from the blue.

Especially Zoey. The color drained completely from her face.
“So your brother’s life was only worth one million to you?”
Alfred’s gaze fixed on her.
His eyes were like a bottomless abyss, stirring instinctive fear deep in her heart.
“Alfred…”
Zoey’s voice trembled, shaking harder by the second.
She knew Alfred was capable of uncovering all this. There was no room left for denial.
“W-what do you mean?”
Norris and Eileen were completely thrown by the turn of events.
“W-wasn’t it the caregiver who tried to hurt my son? How is Zoey involved now?”
Eileen stared at her daughter’s ashen face, disbelief flooding her eyes.
Norris, however, quickly pieced everything together.
The caregiver had been bribed by his daughter, all to frame Nella.
