Chapter 213 I’m Warning You

But Nella’s eyes stayed locked on Alfred, still full of distrust. Her voice dropped low.

“Alfred, don’t you dare pull any crap here.”

Alfred didn’t say a word.

He picked up on the warning in her stare and tensed. His voice turned sharp.

“What’s that look supposed to mean? I’m his brother-in-law. Why the hell would I hurt him?”

Nella didn’t answer.

The second she heard “brother-in-law,” her scalp started to prickle.

Mason and Jasmine both frowned at the same time. This again?

Unbelievable. Just plain shameless.

He’d been flaunting that made-up title all night like he’d filed a claim on it.

Every time he spoke, it was “brother-in-law this” and “brother-in-law that.”

And worse? He said it like he was proud.

What the hell was there to be proud of?

Mason was still mentally roasting him when Alfred threw the order out like it was nothing. “Mason, go get the car.”

Mason glared at him, full of disgust. But he still walked out and went to fetch the car.

Alfred carried Marshal out of the clinic without breaking stride.

His arms didn’t even flinch. They were solid the entire way.

Maybe it was because Alfred had been the one to climb into that drain. But somehow, Marshal trusted him

He stayed curled up in his arms, totally still.

His eyes never looked away. They stayed wide and fixed on Alfred’s face, like he was staring at a damn savior.

Nella saw the way Marshal looked at him, and her stomach twisted.

He was just a baby. He didn’t know people could be awful.

The same guy who called him a useless mutt was now acting like some guardian angel. And Marshal bought

Nella opened the back door and started to slide in-only to see Alfred hop in first with Marshal still in his

arms.

“Thanks.”

He got comfortable, looked up at Nella, and gave her a fake little smile with that one word.

Nella paused.

That door had been for her.

“You should sit in the front.”

She frowned and kept her tone flat.

“Front’s too tight. Marshal won’t have enough room.”

Mason stared at him.

You’re the one who’s tight! Not the damn seat!

The front has more space than you need. Don’t act like you’re doing this for the dog.

You just want to sit next to your wife.

What a load of crap.

Still annoyed, Mason turned to Jasmine with that fake-hopeful look.

“Babe, you’re not seriously gonna sit back there with Alfred, right?”

Jasmine didn’t respond.

She looked at Alfred. Then she looked at Mason.

Both of them were the worst. But if she had to choose, sitting next to Alfred was the one thing she refused to do.

She shot Mason a sharp glare and got into the front seat.
