She didn’t want to be the center of attention in the hospital, especially not because of Mason.

She set her utensils down and stood. “Fine. Let’s talk outside. Don’t drag everyone into this.”

But Nella stepped in before she could move.

“If you don’t want to deal with him, then just don’t go.”

Mason, already tense, got even more worked up seeing Nella intervene.

Funny enough, he’d stood up for her in front of Alfred just yesterday.

“Nella, sort out your stuff with Alfred first. What’s between me and Jasmine is our business.”

Jasmine’s temper flared when she heard the bite of sarcasm and hostility in his voice.

She wasn’t sure if Nella had really let go of Alfred. If Mason ran to Alfred over this and made things worse, she’d feel guilty forever.

But her mind kept drifting to Jasmine, and she barely touched her food.

She’d only eaten a few bites when someone suddenly sat across from her.

Thinking it was Jasmine, she looked up quickly. “You’re back-”

Her smile faltered when she saw who it was. She asked in surprise, “Why are you

The big-shot CEO had suddenly shown up at her hospital. There was no way he’d bother coming to see his wife in name only.

Nella pointed toward where Jasmine and Mason had disappeared. “They’re probably on the skybridge. Jasmine doesn’t want to see him. Do me a favor and get him out of there.”

Alfred didn’t say a word. He just sat there.

The hospital cafeteria tables were low, making his long legs stick out awkwardly and giving him a kind of funny look.

First Mason appeared, then Alfred. Nella’s good mood this morning was totally ruined.

And just being near Alfred made that weird, sour tension crawl back up her chest.

She grabbed her lemonade and gulped it down, hoping it would calm her nerves.

But she drank too fast and started coughing.

Some of it splashed onto her lips, collar, and sleeves.
