Alfred called Nella again. This time was different from before. The phone rang only a few times. before it was cut off.
He refused to give up and called again. After just two rings, it was hung up again.
He opened Nella’s WhatsApp chat.
The screen was filled with green bubbles. They felt like silent mockery, flashing straight into his
eyes.
“I can explain about the video.”
He typed the message and was about to send it. Then he hesitated. Words didn’t feel enough. So, he sent a voice message instead.
“Nella, where are you? I can explain the video. Can we meet and talk, okay?”
He sent it with almost all the courage he had.
But time passed, and there was no reply at all.
He sent several more messages. Still nothing. Only silence.
From the driver’s seat, Richie glanced at his boss through the rearview mirror again and again. He sighed quietly.
He had said it before. Boss would regret his words sooner or later.
His eyes were like a lie detector.
And today, that statement felt more accurate than ever.
“Mr. Keywood,” Richie asked carefully, “would you like me to take you home?”
Alfred leaned back in the seat and closed his eyes. After a long silence, he spoke in a hoarse voice.
“East Manor.”
Half an hour later, Alfred stood in front of Nella’s door.
He pressed the doorbell several times. No one answered.
She wasn’t home?

It was so late. Why hadn’t she come back?
His mind filled with the photos on Archie’s phone. Pictures of Nella eating with another man.
Even though logic told him there was nothing between them, that Nella would never betray him while married…
The photos still lit a fierce fire of jealousy in his chest.
After a long while, he took out his phone and made another call.
“Find out where Nella is.”
At the same time.
“Someone keeps calling you. Is it urgent?” Wesley asked when he saw Nella hang up several calls
in a row.
Nella shook her head. “No. Nobody important.”
She didn’t know what had gotten into Alfred. He had called her so many times today.
Nella frowned slightly, then looked at Wesley.
“Are you back on vacation this time? I’m free for a while. I can show you around Apex.”
