Sergio’s expression was laced with pity, but there was a smug little glint in his eyes.

“Serves him right.”

He muttered under his breath as he glanced at the unconscious Alfred.

Sure, he felt bad for the guy. But the truth? He had it coming.

Sergio stood next to Alfred, hands on his hips, not even sure where to begin.

“I should’ve brought Richie with me in the first place.”

With a heavy sigh, he finally crouched down and started helping Alfred up from the ground.

“Mr. Keywood, I’m taking you to the hospital first.”

“Nella…”

That weak murmur echoed beside his ear.

“Nella, you gotta believe me…”

Sergio heard the man mumbling and shot a look toward the locked front door in front of them. He shook his head hard.

Right now, he summed the whole situation up

with some very

familiar words-

You deserved it.

Nella’s heart might be cold as ice now, but it didn’t freeze overnight.

Sergio wasn’t a clueless guy.

Yeah, what Nella just did was stone-cold, letting Alfred pass out like that without blinking. But he didn’t think she was in the wrong.

“Mr. Keywood, let’s just go. Don’t bother Mrs. Keywood anymore. If you keep bugging her, she’s just gonna get even more pissed and shut you out even harder.”

Maybe Alfred was too sick and too weak to fight it anymore.

Or maybe it was Sergio’s last sentence that finally hit the mark.

Either way, Alfred ended up getting dragged out of Nella’s neighborhood just like that.

When Alfred finally opened his eyes, that strong stench of antiseptic hit his nose.

“Mr. Keywood, you’re awake?”

Sergio came rushing over. His eyes were ringed with exhaustion after staying up

all night.

Alfred looked at him, then down at the gauze still taped to his hand. He scanned the room and asked hoarsely,

“I’m at the hospital?”

“Yeah, Mr. Keywood. You passed out from a high fever last night. If we were even a little later, you’d be dealing with pneumonia right now.”

High fever?

Alfred vaguely remembered bits and pieces.

He remembered showing up at Nella’s place. Remembered her locking him out.

He’d tried explaining. She wouldn’t listen. She didn’t believe him.

And then…

What happened after that?

It was all a blur.

He only remembered the pain in his stomach. That unbearable, wrenching pain like someone was trying to tear his insides out by force.

After that… nothing.

“She’s the one who brought me here?”

“Nope.”

Sergio shut that down instantly, stabbing another knife straight into Alfred’s chest.

“She called me. Told me to come get you and take you to the hospital.”

Whether he meant it or not, Sergio just let that sentence land with full force. Alfred’s face, already pale as a ghost, drained even further.

“Enough.”

He shot Sergio a cold glare.

There wasn’t a single word he wanted to hear.
