After saying that-and successfully making Alfred’s face darken-Wesley added with a grin, “Marshal is my brother, so my cousin is also Marshal’s cousin. Right, Cousin?”
Alfred knew he couldn’t win an argument with Wesley, and he was even more afraid of giving him a chance to show off in front of Nella. So he simply kept a cold face and ignored Wesley.
Instead, he stood up, took the dog leash hanging on the entryway cabinet, and turned back to Nella.
“I’ll take Marshal out for a walk.”
Nella immediately nodded, wishing Alfred would hurry up and leave.
With these two men in the same space, she always felt like they might start throwing punches.
After Alfred went out, Nella looked at Wesley with some helplessness and said, “Can’t you two talk things out properly?”
No matter what, they were cousins.
That last part, Nella didn’t say out loud.
Wesley shook his head with a bitter smile. Then he suddenly looked at Nella and asked, “If I end up in conflict with him, which side would you stand on?”
Nella froze at the question he suddenly threw at her.
She had never thought about something like that before
But then she thought about it again. Her marriage to Alfred was about to come to an end.
By then, they wouldn’t even have a semblance of a connection.
But Wesley was different. He had saved her life, and he had taken such careful care of her back in Glacieroth.
It’s fair to say that without Wesley’s care and guidance during that half month, she didn’t know how she would have made it through.
Thinking that way, she no longer hesitated and answered,
“You’re my senior. Of course, I’d stand on your side.”
Wesley was stunned for a moment. Then a smile spread from the depths of his eyes.
Then he heard Nella add, “But if you really don’t want to have any more contact with Alfred and the others, you should still make things clear to Regis and others.”
After several seconds of silence, Wesley nodded.
“Alright. I’ll do what you say.”
Nella rolled her eyes.
Alfred took Marshal downstairs for a walk and soon returned.

Afterward, neither of them spoke to the other.
“The food is ready. Let’s eat.”
Clifford called out to everyone in the living room after setting the dishes on the table.
“Nella, go set out the table,” Felicia told Nella.

Just as Nella was about to get up and head to the kitchen the two men sitting at opposite ends of the living room spoke at the same time-
“I’ll do it.”
“I’ll do it.”
Hearing each other’s voices, Alfred and Wesley both shot hostile looks at one another.
But they quickly pulled them back and only said to Felicia,
“Felicia, Nella chatted with me until after four in the morning last night. You should let her rest more. Just let me handle whatever needs to be done. If it weren’t for me, she wouldn’t have stayed up so late.”
