Buried in the Avalanche Our Love Expired novel Chapter 416

Chapter 416 Is He Okay?

Finished

But she knew that Alfred was hurt worse than she was that day. That slab of stone that had fallen was supposed to hit her head, but Alfred had taken it for her.

There was no way he was fine. She had already been in the hospital for so long-how could Alfred be perfectly okay?

But she didn’t dare think about it, and she didn’t dare ask.

She was pretending everything was fine, like nothing had happened.

Still, even though everyone silently avoided the topic, she noticed every little expression on their faces.

Especially when Camelia came to see her-eyes were red, but she tried to force a smile, trying to act strong.

During her whole hospital stay, Nella hadn’t asked a single word about Alfred.

It was Wesley who came to see her on the day she was discharged.

After her parents finished the paperwork, she turned and saw Wesley standing in front of the hospital. There was a trace of sadness in his eyes, the kind she didn’t want to ask about, but he smiled at her anyway.

“Hi, Wesley,” she called softly as she walked toward him.

All ten of Wesley’s fingers were still wrapped in bandages. She could tell the injuries were serious.

She opened her mouth but didn’t know what to say.

“Want to go for a walk?” Wesley asked.

Nella nodded.

They went to the outdoor lounge and sat down.

The scene felt strangely familiar.

!

Her eyes fell on Wesley’s bandaged fingers, and she spoke slowly, “Thank you, Wesley.”

He followed her gaze to his own ten fingers and gave a wry smile.

“For what? I’m no match for Alfred,” he said.

At that, Nella fell silent.

After a long moment, she gathered the courage to ask, “Is he … okay?”

When the words finally came out, she realized her voice was shaking badly.

Wesley looked at her, a little surprised. “You don’t know?”

Nella pressed her lips together and lowered her eyes, saying nothing.

Seeing her expression, Wesley understood.

Finished

Since she had woken up, no one had told her anything about Alfred, and for some reason, she hadn’t asked about him herself.

“When he blocked that falling stone for you, it cracked his frontal lobe. The doctors said there was a very high chance he wouldn’t wake up. Even if he did, the outlook wouldn’t be good.”

Even though it wasn’t good news, at that moment, the weight that had been pressing on Nella’s heart finally lifted a little.

At least Alfred was alive.

Much better than the answer she had been afraid of.

Wesley noticed her reaction was calm. When she heard that Alfred hadn’t woken up right away, her face even showed a little relief.

At that moment, he almost fooled himself into thinking she might really not care about Alfred-that she had completely let him go.
