Joanna’s eyes turned glacial. Her chest ached with fury, and tears of frustration brimmed in her eyes. She shook her head.
"We failed. The car ended up in the river, and the assassin was arrested. Natalie walked away without a single scratch. She’s just so unbelievably lucky."
"Useless!" Maxwell snapped, equally furious. "How does she manage to dodge a bullet every single time? What kind of insane luck does this woman have? You’ve set traps for her nearly a hundred times, and not a single one has worked. Yet whenever you scheme against Sebastian, it works flawlessly. Is Natalie actually more capable than Sebastian?"
He was sick of relying on a bunch of incompetent fools. They disappointed him every time.
Joanna squeezed her eyes shut. Why was it so easy in my dreams?
In her visions, her schemes against Natalie always went perfectly. Natalie had always suffered endlessly, eventually dying a painful, agonizing death.
But now, in reality... everything was falling apart.
Maxwell, however, wasn't entirely deterred. If anything, the failure fueled his competitive drive. Once he recovered, he would orchestrate the next trap himself. "Don't worry," he sneered. "She won't get away. Next time, I'll handle her personally."
Suddenly, Joanna felt a sharp cramp in her stomach.
Gurgle...
A wave of dread washed over her. It was the unmistakable prelude to severe diarrhea. Had the food gone bad?
The abdominal pain intensified rapidly. She looked up at Maxwell, opening her mouth to speak.
And then, the unthinkable happened.
Prrrbt!
Sitting cross-legged on his bed, Maxwell let out a loud, violent string of flatulence.
His face contorted in absolute horror. His eyes bulged in shock as he stared blankly into space. In that moment, he wanted the earth to swallow him whole.
A putrid, eye-watering stench instantly filled the sterile hospital room.
Joanna stared at him, her mouth agape in utter disbelief. But before she could even mock him, her own face flushed a sickly shade of green.
"Ugh..." Joanna sobbed, hanging her head in shame. Her eyes were bloodshot, her face pale as a sheet. She wanted to die on the spot. Her tightly clenched fists trembled violently.
She looked down at the floor, disgusted by the mess she had made.
Outside in the hallway, Sean watched the entire spectacle unfold. "Hahaha!" Unable to contain himself, he let out a roaring laugh and briskly walked away.
Even when he reached the hospital lobby, he couldn't stop laughing. It was pure ecstasy. Every insult Joanna had ever hurled at him had been avenged in one spectacular blow.
He quickly sent the footage to Sebastian so his boss could share in the joy.
Back at the apartment, Sebastian was reviewing the security feeds.
Natalie and Luna had arrived home. They were physically fine, though Natalie was clearly in a foul mood.
Luna sat on the couch, venting to Keith about the night's terrifying ordeal.
"Keith, do you have any idea what we went through tonight? We almost got pushed into a freezing river and drowned!"
