Sebastian wrenched his arm away, his expression twisting into a mask of pure revulsion.
Seeing her pitiful act, he realized he used to fall for it and actually feel sorry for her.
He laughed, but there was no warmth in his voice. “Joanna, I was willing to help you because I thought you were a kind person. Even when you played those little tricks, I saw them as harmless and helped you. But what have you done?”
“Are you sure you were the one who saved me back then?”
Joanna’s blood ran cold, her mind instantly fracturing into a thousand panicked thoughts.
Had he figured something out?
Impossible. All the evidence from back then had been destroyed.
Joanna’s eyes flickered, and she looked at her father behind her. “Sebastian, of course it was me who saved you. My dad was there too.”
Sebastian looked at Nathan, a curious smile playing on his lips. “Mr. Scott, the fire back then was arson, and so was my car accident. What a coincidence that you two just happened to be at the scene.”
“Even with my car accident, you just happened to be nearby. I recently tracked down the owner of that inn. I’m going to have a talk with him and get some answers.”
Joanna and Nathan’s eyes widened in shock.
Nathan’s expression was strained, caught between a grimace and a forced smile.
Why was Sebastian suddenly so concerned about those two incidents?
“Sebastian, I swear, why would we ever want to harm you? My greatest wish is for you and Joanna to be together.”
“Have you forgotten? When you were at your lowest, it was Joanna who stayed by your side. It was Joanna who saved your life.”
“And for that, I gave her everything for all those years. But how did you all repay me?” Sebastian finished coldly and left the room.
Joanna tracked Sebastian’s retreat, her eyes narrowing into icy slits of calculated malice.
“See? I told you not to come here and humiliate yourself, but you wouldn’t listen.”
Her father, her mother, her eldest brother, and the man she once wanted to marry—they had all betrayed her.
Joanna stood silently for a long time before whispering, “Fine. You’ve all betrayed me. Since you’ve all turned your backs on me, then no one gets to be happy.”
If she couldn’t be happy, no one else would be either.
Sebastian wanted to mend his relationship with Natalie? In his dreams.
He would never have Natalie again.
Natalie was certainly impressive in the eyes of men. She was willing to give her life for Sebastian.
Any man who married a woman like that would be happy for the rest of his life.
But she wasn't happy, so why should Sebastian and Natalie get to be?
She would eliminate everyone who stood in her way, one by one.
