Can’t Win Me Back novel (Alyssa and Jasper) novel Chapter 2589

Caught off guard by the sudden kiss, their lips met softly, their breaths tangling together.

Instead of deepening it, Alyssa slipped her arms around Jasper's neck and clung to him with quiet dependence. Her kiss was tender and lingering, every breath warm and gentle against him.

Jasper's entire back stiffened instantly. It felt as though someone had pressed pause on both his heartbeat and his breathing.

His trembling fingers curled tightly around the armrests of the leather chair. Crimson slowly spread across his cheeks, the tips of his ears, and the corners of his eyes. A vein throbbed visibly at his neck while his Adam's apple bobbed hard.

After what felt like forever, Alyssa finally pulled away, panting softly. Her face was thoroughly flushed, the intoxicating blush trailing all the way down her neck.

"Hold me, Jasper…" she whispered.

Her soft lips brushed lightly against the tip of his ear, now burning red. Her featherlight voice sent an uncontrollable tremor through his heart.

A flicker of panic crossed Jasper's eyes. In a hoarse voice, he reminded her, "We're in the conference room."

"So?" Alyssa tilted her head, rubbing the tip of her nose against his tense jaw while her warm breath teased his unsteady Adam's apple. "Don't you want to hold me?"

Her voice was soft and coaxing, like a spoiled little kitten acting cute. No man in the world could possibly resist her like this.

Jasper inhaled deeply before slowly opening his rigid arms and wrapping them around her waist.

"Hold me tighter," Alyssa murmured.

His arms immediately tightened around her, the muscles in them flexing unconsciously.

"A little tighter… please?" Her voice trembled faintly, tinged with a fragile sob.

Jasper's heart pounded violently as he obeyed without hesitation, pulling her firmly into his embrace. Their chests pressed tightly together, rising and falling in the same rhythm, as though even their heartbeats and souls had become one.

"Jasper… It feels so good to be with you."

Alyssa buried her face against his neck, her breath warm and damp against his skin. Tears pooled in her eyes as she whispered, "I hope we'll always remember this feeling. Don't ever forget it again, okay?"

Jasper's eyes reddened instantly, his breathing growing even more uneven. He parted his dry lips, wanting to answer her, yet no sound came out. It was as though an overwhelming bitterness had lodged itself deep inside his chest.

Not only did his heart ache for her, but he also carried an indescribable guilt toward her.

He had never forgotten her. It was just that his illness had trapped him behind an impenetrable psychological wall, one he could never tear down no matter how desperately he tried. Because he had never forgotten, the guilt inside him only grew heavier with every passing day.

But one thing had never changed. Should danger ever find Alyssa, he would throw himself into the fire without a second thought, willing to give his own life to guarantee her a lifetime of peace.
