EMILIA’S POV
The words scraped out of my throat before I could stop them.
“H-how is any of this my fault?” I whispered, my voice shaking from fear and confusion. “Why do you have me tied here? What do you want with me?”
The woman didn’t answer right away.
She just stood there, her presence pressing over me like a tidal wave of cold air. Then she leaned down, and once again her fingers glided across my cheek. Her touch made every nerve in my body flinch.
– “You don’t even know,” she murmured, almost disappointed. “You don’t even understand the type of power you possess.”
Her hand lingered on my face, her nails trailing lightly across my skin as though she was examining me, studying me, savoring the tension trembling under my flesh.
Then she leaned closer, her lips brushing the shell of my ear as she whispered:
“My second biggest enemy lives inside you.”
My breath froze.
“What are you talking about?” I forced out, choking on the panic bubbling up in my throat.
The woman chuckled softly-the kind of laugh that crawled under my skin and sank into my bones. She sounded entertained. So entertained it made bile rise in my stomach.
“Oh, Emilia,” she said slowly, walking around me again like a predator circling wounded prey. “Milandra. That stupid, loyal little bitch found a vessel after centuries…and you, darling, are that vessel.”
My heart stopped.
I knew-l had been told-that Milandra’s spirit was inside me. But hearing it from this woman… hearing it in the way she said it, with venom and disgust and a twisted sense of history…it hit me differently.
It hit something deep.
It felt like her words reached into my chest and squeezed my lungs until I could barely breathe.
“So what’s your deal?” I whispered, my voice breaking. “Why are you doing all of this? What do you want?”
The woman suddenly clapped her hands together excitedly, the sound echoing through the stone wall like a celebration. Her energy shifted-bright, almost gleeful.
“Don’t you see?” she grinned. “I’m doing this for my own enjoyment.”
My stomach dropped.
“For fun?” I cried out, disbelief swelling in my chest. “How is any of this fun to you?”
“Oh, it’s more than fun,” she hummed. “It’s thrilling. Right now, as we speak, there’s a war going on. A beautiful, chaotic war.”
My heart slammed against my ribs.
“What do you mean? What do you mean there’s a war?” struggled violently against the ropes, panic surging through me like a punch of electricity. “What war?! What are you talking about?!”
But she ignored me.
She simply continued walking in slow circles, her steps soundless, her aura slicing through the air like cold knives.
” I was waiting for the right time,” she said lazily. “The perfect moment to come back and seek my revenge. And tonight? Oh, tonight is absolutely delicious.”
She paused, her silhouette drifting to the edge of my vision.
The moon goddess forgot something,” she whispered. “She forgot she gave me an immortal soul. Which means I could never really be killed.”
My body trembled.
Immortal.
“And when I was reborn,” she continued, “I was given this body. A lovely, innocent body. A body that allowed me. to walk right into the heart of power.”
She leaned down slightly, just enough for me to feel her cold breath against my cheek.
“I made the king and queen believe I was their perfect, obedient witch.”
Her smile spread, wide and poisonous.
“Always providing solutions when there were none. Always guiding them when they were desperate. They trusted me.”
My heart thundered painfully.
She straightened, her voice turning smug.
“If only they knew,” she said softly, “that I was the one who made their son’s beast uncontrollable.”
Everything inside me stopped.
“What?” I breathed.
Her smile deepened, delighted by my shock.
“Their little bey,” she said. “Born with one of the most powerful beasts to ever exist-a Lycan. A beast powerful, indestructible. A blessing most would kill for.”
She clicked her tongue.
“But I made him unable to control it.”
My mind spun.
I couldn’t breathe.
My voice dropped to a whisper.
“Why?” I asked. “Why would you do that? Why would you mess with his mate bond?”
“Simple,” she said. “I wanted to distract him. Confuse him. Keep him from ever finding what he was destined for.”
“But,” she continued, rolling her eyes dramatically, “that was my first mistake.”
My breath caught.
“Because you know what happened?” she said.
She didn’t wait for an answer.
“He actually started to like her. And his beast became less angry. Less destructive. Can you imagine?”
Her voice dripped with mockery.
A couldn’t believe I did that,” she said. “I almost undid my own curse.”
My heartbeat was thundering in my ears, loud and relentless.
“So,” she whispered, “you know what I did next?”
Her presence shifted-suddenly right beside me, leaning so close her hair brushed against my neck. I froze as her breath slid across my skin like ice.
She lowered her voice, soft and slow.
“The beast was calming,” she murmured. “He was becoming stronger.
More stable. And that girl..’
Her cold fingers curled around the side of my face, holding me still.
‘..that girl was ruining everything.”
My entire body trembled.
I felt nausea rising, choking me, suffocating me.
“What did you do?” I whispered, even though I already felt the answer clawing at my chest.
She smiled against my ear.
A smile I could feel.
A smile filled with cruelty.
