Maximus’s POV

The moment heard her scream-that scream-something inside me snapped so violently it felt like the entire world split open.

My wolf didn’t just push forward.

He detonated.

A roar tore out of my chest, shaking the walls of the cave as I charged inside, claws digging into stone, fury flooding every vein in my body.

The air was thick with the stench of blood. Emilia’s blood.

My vision went red.

Soraya spun toward me, her eyes widening- but she reacted a heartbeat too slow.

My wolf slammed into her with full force.

Her body flew across the cave and crashed into the wall so hard the stone cracked behind her. She screamed as she hit the ground, but l was already shifting mid-air, bones snapping back into human form, skin burning, breath tearing out of me in ragged bursts.

I didn’t care.

I didn’t feel a damn thing.

Except one thing-

Emilia.

I staggered toward the altar, and the moment I saw her fully, something inside me died.

Her wrists were tied down:

Her skin was pale.

Her body was shaking.

And there, buried right in the center of her chest—

A dagger.

My heart just… stopped.

“No,” I whispered, stumbling the last few steps. “No, no, no-please… please don’t let me be late.”

My hands trembled violently as I reached her. My knees buckled, hitting the stone floor hard.

“Emilia,” I breathed, touching her cheek with a shaking hand. “What have they done to you?”

Behind me, Soraya groaned somewhere on the ground.

I ignored her.

My entire world was on this altar.

I cupped Emilia’s face, my thumb brushing her jaw. Her eyelids fluttered open-barely-and she looked at me like she was trying to memorize my face.

“Emilia-” My voice cracked. “Baby, look at me. Stay with me. Stay with me, please.”

She blinked slowly, her body trembling violently. “Maximus…” her voice was a whisper soaked in pain. “You… your eyes are beautiful.”

My throat burned.

“Don’t-don’t say things like that right now,” I said, voice breaking as ! looked at the knife sticking out of her chest. “If I pull this out, you’llbleed out faster. If I leave it-fuck-I don’t know—I don’t fucking know what to do.”

My hands hovered over the knife, then recoiled

Blood soaked the altar, seeping under my knees. Too much blood.

Panic clawed up my throat.

“Emilia,” I whispered again, my voice shattering, “can’t lose you. You hear me? I can’t. You better make use of whatever super immortal magic you have, because you’re not fucking leaving me. Not like this.”

Behind me, a voice spoke with disgusting calmness.

“What are you even doing here?” Soraya said. “I thought there was a war or something.”

She said it like she was talking about the weather. About a sunny day.

Not the woman I love bleeding out on an altar.

I turned my head slowly, rage twisting so violently in my chest it felt Like lightning under my skin.

If I weren’t holding Emilia, I would have ripped Soraya apart right then.

But Emilia’s heartbeat-faint, fading-dragged me back.

No breath.

No heartbeat.Just stillness.

Just silence.

“Emilia..” 1 whispered again, but my voice didn’t sound like mine anymore. It sounded hotlow. Broken. Dead.

Behind me, Soraya exhaled softly.

“Finally,” she murmured. “My job is done.”

Something in me twisted so violently I felt it physically-like something dark ripping loose inside my chest.

Slowly, I stood.

Slowly, I turned to face her.

“Say that again,” I whispered.

Soraya smirked, pushing herself to her feet, brushing dust off her clothes as if she hadn’t just murdered the only woman I have ever loved.

“You heard me.”

My vision turned black around the edges.

I could already picture it—the way I’d tear her limb from limb. The way I’d make her scream. The way-

But then-

Light exploded behind me.

A burst so bright and sudden I flinched, throwing an arm over my eyes.

The entire cave lit up like the moon itself had forced its way inside. A powerful wind whipped around me, scattering dust, making the ropes around Emilia snap and whip like living things.

I spun back toward the altar-

And what I saw….
