LUCIEN’S POV
The pull of the bond dragged me through the palace like a rope tied around my ribs, yanking harder with every step.
My heart pounded in my ears, a mix of fear and fury that – made my vision tunnel. Adele was close…I could feel it in my bones, her scent wrapping around me like smoke, sweet and intoxicating, laced with that damn heat that drove every instinct wild.
burst out into the open air, the training grounds sprawled out below me like a battlefield. Warriors sparred under the afternoon sun, shirts discarded, muscles gleaming with sweat. Grunts filled the air. But none of that registered. Not until I saw her.
Adele.
She was perched on a stone bench at the edge of the grounds, legs crossed, leaning forward like she was enjoying the best show of her life. Her eyes were locked on the men, scanning them with a hunger that hit me like a punch to the gut. One warrior—a tall, broad-shouldered brute with a smirk-caught her gaze. She smiled at him, slow and teasing, then threw him a wink. He had the balls to smile back, his eyes lingering on her a second too long.
She bit her lower lip, like a schoolgirl with a crush, her cheeks flushing pink.My blood boiled.
Everything went red. My wolf surged forward, claws itching to extend, a growl building low in my throat. What the hell was she doing? Out here, in her heat, flaunting herself like bait in a sea of sharks? The bond screamed possessiveness through me, hot and primal.
I froze for a split second, breath caught in my chest. Then I snapped.
I marched down the steps, boots slamming against the ground. Warriors paused mid-spar, sensing the storm coming. Eyes flicked my way, tense and wary. But Adele?
She didn’t even glance over. Just kept staring at those shirtless bastards, her gaze roaming like she was picking out her next meal.
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing, Adele?” I snarled, voice low and dangerous as I closed the distance.
She ignored me. Completely. Her lips curved into another smile as one of the men flexed, showing off. The air around the grounds thickened, the warriors shifting uneasily, but she acted like I wasn’t even there.
“I’m talking to you, Adele,” I growled louder, stopping right beside her bench. My hands clenched into fists, nails digging into my palms.
Still nothing. Her eyes stayed glued to the field, that damn lip bite making my vision blur with rage. Before I could think, before I could stop myself, my body moved on instinct. I reached down, grabbed her around the waist, and hauled her up like she weighed nothing.
She gasped, a sharp intake of breath that sent a jolt through me, but I didn’t care. I threw her over my shoulder, her body draped across me, ass in the air.
“Put me down, Lucien!” she yelled, pounding her fists against my back. Her hits were angry, fueled by fire, but they barely registered. My wolf reveled in the contact, in having her close, even if it was like this.
I didn’t stop. I turned and stormed back toward the palace, moving like a caveman claiming his prize. People scattered-servants gaping, guards stepping aside with wide eyes. Whispers followed us, but I tuned them out. All 1 could feel was her heat against my skin, her scent flooding my senses, making my cock twitch despite the fury.
We made it to our bedroom in record time. I kicked the door open with my boot, stepped inside, and slammed it shut behind us. Then I dropped her to her feet, none too gently.
My growl ripped out, deep and possessive. My wolf pushed forward, eyes shifting to that bright brown glow, instincts taking over. I could feel the heat radiating off her skin, her body responding even as she fought me. The airbetween us crackled, thick with tension, every inch of space charged like a storm about to break.
“The only person you’re allowed to look at is me,” I growled, my hand sliding up to grab her chin, forcing her to meet my gaze. My thumb brushed her lower lip, rough and demanding.
She tilted her head, eyes narrowing, a sly smile playing on her lips. “Really… what if I tell you you’re not worth looking at?”
Her words stung, but they also ignited something deeper, hotter. I tightened my grip on her chin, not hard enough to hurt, but enough to make her breath hitch. Our faces were so close now, her lips parting slightly, inviting without meaning to.
She leaned in, her mouth brushing my ear, hot breath sending sparks down my neck. “I’m in heat, Lucien,” she whispered, voice low and teasing, dripping with challenge. “And there are many hot men out there…I might just let one of them fuck me…”
The world stopped.
My blood roared in my ears, possessiveness exploding like a dam breaking. Her words hung in the air, a deliberate provocation, and fuck if it didn’t work.
My body reacted instantly-cock hardening painfully against my pants, pressing into her hip. I could feel her pulse racing under my fingers, her scent spiking witharousal that matched mine.
But. she’d pushed too far.
