LUCIEN’S POV
The palace halls were dead quiet as I dragged my ass back to our room, the weight of the day clinging to me like a second skin.
It was late-way past midnight-and the moon hung high outside the windows, casting silvery shadows that did nothing to ease the knot in my gut. My muscles ached from the endless hours l’d buried myself in work: reviewing patrol reports, drilling the night guard, anything to keep my mind from spiraling into the shitstorm that had exploded on the training ground.
After finally prying Andrea off my leg and sending him back with Naomi-promising him I’d see him soon, just to stop the tears-l’d gone looking for Adele. But she’d been holed up with Emilia, the queen herself, and I didn’t have the balls to barge in and make things worse. Not when her silence earlier had already gutted me.
I pushed the door open, the creak echoing in the empty space. The room was dark, save for the faint glow from a bedside lamp.
“Adele?” I called out, my voice rough from exhaustion.
No answer.
I flicked on the main light, scanning the bed-empty, sheets still tucked tight like she hadn’t touched them.Bathroom door was ajar, but a quick glance showed it was empty too. My heart kicked up a notch, that familiar panic creeping in. Where the hell was she? Had she left? Packed up and gone back to her old life because of this mess?
I was about to turn on my heel and storm out, search every corner of this goddamn palace if I had to, when the door swung open behind me. There she was-Adele, stepping in like a ghost, her face pale and drawn, eyes red rimmed like she’d been fighting tears all day.
She looked wrecked, shoulders slumped, like the weight of the world was crushing her down. My chest tightened at the sight. She didn’t even glance my way, just moved to walk past me toward the bed, her steps heavy and deliberate.
“Adele,’
“I whispered, stepping in front of her, blocking her path. The air between us crackled, thick with unspoken words and that tension that had been building since morning. “I’m sorry. This is all happening so fast, and I”
She didn’t respond. Didn’t even look at me. Just tried to sidestep, like I was nothing more than an obstacle. That stung, deeper than I expected.
I reached out, grabbing her hand gently but firm enough to stop her. Her skin was cool against mine, but the spark was still there, that electric pull that always hit me when we touched. “Adele, please. Say something. Yell at me, hit me, anything. Just don’t shut me out.”
She finally lifted her eyes to mine, and goddess, the pain in them nearly knocked me back. It was raw, accusing, like I’d betrayed her in the worst way. “Go be with your wife and kid,” she said, her voice flat and cold, but I could hear the tremble underneath.
I stared at her, shock ripping through me like a blade.” Adele, don’t say that.” The words came out hoarse, desperate. Wife? Kid? It sounded so wrong, so final, like she’d already written me off.
“Why? Because it’s the truth?” She yanked her hand free, but I didn’t move, still blocking her. Her chest heaved, breaths coming fast, and I could see the anger bubbling up, mixing with the hurt. “You think I’m going to come between your one big family? That little boy clinging to you, calling you Daddy? Naomi hovering like she’s already won? Go on, Lucien. Go play house.”
“No. No, that’s crazy.” I shook my head, stepping closer, invading her space because I couldn’t stand the distance.
The room felt smaller, the air heavier, charged with that mix of fury and need that always simmered between us. ” You’re the only woman I want a family with. The only one.
This… whatever Naomi’s pulling, it’s not real. Not like us.”
“Too bad,” she shot back, her voice cracking now, tears glistening in her eyes. “You’ve been given one on a platter.
Perfect little family, all wrapped up. Now get out of my way.”
She shoved at my chest, hard, her palms slamming into me with surprising force. I didn’t budge, but she keptgoing, pushing again, then hitting me with closed fists angry, frustrated blows that landed on my chest, my shoulders. Each one fueled the fire in me, not pain, but that intense heat that made my blood run hot. “Adele-”
I thrust into her, hard and deep, burying myself to the hilt.
Her head fell back against the wall with a thud, a cry escaping her lips that was pure ecstasy.
The feel of her-tight, hot, clenching around me-was everything. I started moving, pounding into her with all the anger and passion we’d bottled up, whispering against her neck, “I love you. Only you. Fuck, Adele, you’re mine.”
She kissed me harder, biting my lip now, her hands in my hair pulling tight. “Faster,” she demanded, her voice breathless and commanding. “Harder.”
I obliged, slamming into her with relentless rhythm, the sound of our bodies slapping together filling the room.
She tightened her legs around my waist, drawing me deeper, so deep I could feel every pulse, every flutter. The tension built, coiling tight in my gut, her moans turning into desperate cries.
“Cum inside me, Lucien,” she moaned, her eyes locked on mine, wild and needy.
“But… but..” I gasped.
She pushed me deeper, legs tightening.
I couldn’t pull out.I came hard, deep inside her with a guttural growl, shooting ropes after ropes, filling her completely.
Risking everything.
