ROSE’S POV
The first thing I felt was pain. Sharp, electric, piercing pain. My body burned all over, every inch of me screaming, every nerve on fire like I’d been shattered into a thousand pieces.
I tried to move…tried to lift my arms, wiggle a finger–but nothing worked. Not an inch. Not a
twitch.
Panic slammed into me like a freight train. What…what is happening?
I couldn’t open my eyes. My eyelids felt glued shut, heavy as lead. I tried again, harder this time, still nothing.
I heard voices.
Soft at first, whispering, almost gentle. Then closer, more urgent. I tried to focus, straining my ears, but everything was muffled, distant. My mind raced as my body stayed paralyzed.
I could feel movement near me. Hands. Someone–or something–was touching me. Not violently, but they were there. My skin tingled where their fingers brushed me. Cold at first, then… a heat that ran straight through my veins, making my stomach twist and my head spin.
I swallowed hard, even though my throat felt dry, tight, as if someone had pressed a fist inside it. “No…no, stop…” I tried to whisper, my lips barely moving.
Then voices came again–low, controlled, clinical. So calm it made my skin crawl.
Men’s voices, low and urgent, echoing in what sounded like a large, empty room. Concrete walls, maybe? The air smelled stale, metallic, with a hint of chemicals that burned my
nostrils.
“…stable for now,” one voice said, clipped and professional. It sounded close, maybe right beside me.
Another voice replied, rougher, with a hint of an accent I couldn’t place. “Good. We don’t want her dying before we get what we need. How long until the serum kicks in fully?”
”
Serum? What serum? My heart–wait, I could feel my heart now, pounding wildly in my chest like a trapped animal. But the rest of me… still nothing. I focused inward, reaching for that familiar warmth, the presence that had always been. My wolf. Come on, girl, where are you? Heal me. Help me.
Silence. Empty, terrifying silence where her growl or whine should have been. She was gone.

Suppressed? Blocked? Fear slammed into me like a wave, colder than the air around me Without my wolf, I was just…human. Vulnerable Week.
“Should be any minute, the first voice answered. “Her vitals are spiking–she’s fighting it Tough one, this girl
Footsteps approached, heavy on the hard floor. I felt the air shift as someone leaned over me. Breath on my face–wam, sour. A hand touched my army, rough fingers pressing into my skin. I wanted to jerk away, to fight, but I couldn’t. Not even a twitch Inside, I was screaming threshing but on the outside… nothing
“She’s awake the rough voice said doser now. Look at her pulse jumping. Hey princess, you hear me?”
Yes! I hear you, you bastard! Let me go! But the words stayed locked in my head. More hands now–on my shoulders, my legs. Proting checking. One of them lifted my wrist feeling for my pulse. Another adjusted something around my neck–a collar? No, restraints. I could feel them now, thick straps biting into my wrists and ankles, holding me down on wiret felt like a cold metal table.
The pain intensifed with their touch, those needles tuming into knives. Every brush of fabric or skin against mine sent fresh waves of toment crashing through me. I tried to focus on breathing on staying calm, but the fear was building, calling in my gut like a snake ready to
scrke
Who were these people? What did they want? My mind raced back to the gym–Kate’s smirk that satisfied look like shed orchestrated the whole thing. Was she involved? Or was this something bigger? Damien had warned me about enemies? Rivals? God, Damien where was he? Did he know I was gone? The thought of him searching for me, worried sick, twisted the
knife deeper.
The voices continued. ‘Prep the next dose. We need to keep her down until we’re done
extracting.
Extracting? Extracting what? Blood? My stomach churned.
The cold intensified, seeping deeper until my teeth would have chattered if I could move them. Goosebumps prickled my skin, but even that felt distant muffed by the paralysis. I strained again to open my eyes, pushing with everything I had. A sliver–just a crack Come
on!
Nothing. The darkness held firm.
More footsteps. A door creaked open somewhere in the distance, letting in a draft that carried new scents–damp earth, rust. Another voice joined, this one female, sharp and

“She’s conscious but immobilized,” the professional one reported. “Ready for phase two.”
Phase two? What the hell was phase one? My mind spun, piecing together fragments.
The woman’s heels clicked closer. I could smell her now–perfume, something floral and expensive, mixed with the sharp tang of authority. Her hand brushed my forehead, almost gentle, like she was checking a fever. “Poor thing. You must be terrified.”
‘You think? Get your hands off me!‘
She chuckled softly, as if she could hear my thoughts. “Don’t worry, Rose. It won’t hurt much longer. Well… not if you cooperate.”
Cooperate? With what? I didn’t even know what they wanted! Frustration boiled inside me, mixing with the fear. If I could just reach my wolf… just a spark…
But there was nothing. Emptiness. It was like a part of me had been ripped out, leaving a gaping hole. Tears welled up behind my closed lids–I could feel them, hot and stinging, but they didn’t fall. Even crying was denied to me.
The hands returned, more insistent now. Something cold swabbed my arm–the sharp smell
of alcohol.
No. No, please. Not another injection.
“Administering now,” the professional voice said.
A prick–sharp, then burning. Something hot flooded my veins, racing through my body like liquid fire. It started in my arm, spreading outward, igniting every nerve ending it touched. The pain escalated, from needles to razors, slicing through muscle and bone. I wanted to arch my back, to scream, but I was frozen, trapped in this silent hell.
The heat built, wave after wave, until it felt like I was burning from the inside out. My heart hammered faster, erratic, like it might burst. Voices blurred around me–murmurs, orders, beeps from machines I couldn’t see.
“Hold her steady.”
“Vitals are spiking–push more sedative.”
The woman’s voice cut through: “Easy now. We need her alive.”
Alive for what? The question echoed in my mind as the fire reached my head, pounding behind my eyes.

The heat peaked, then… shifted. Darkness crept back in, pulling me down. My thoughts fragmented, scattering like leaves in the wind. I fought it, clinging to consciousness, but it was slipping away.
No… stay awake… fight…
But the pull was too strong. The voices faded to echoes, the pain dulled to a distant throb. The last thing I registered was the woman’s hand on my cheek, cold and terrifying.
“Sleep now, Rose. We’ll talk soon.”
And then, nothing.
