ADELE’S POV
My head throbbed like someone had taken a hammer to it. Everything hurt-my wrists, my shoulders, my neck where the men had pulled roughly while trying to force me to breathe in. The smell of wolfsbane still clung to my nostrils, bitter and burning, making my stomach roll every time I breathed too deep.
I blinked slowly, vision swimming, until the darkness sharpened into shapes.
I was tied to a chair.
Thick ropes bit into my wrists, looped around the wooden arms, knotted so tight my fingers were already going numb. My ankles were bound to the chair legs. Cold stone floor beneath me. Damp air. The faint drip of water somewhere behind me.
A cellar.
I knew it instantly-the musty smell, the low ceiling, the way sound echoed off the walls like it was
trapped.
My heart kicked hard against my ribs.
Then I saw him.
Harrison stood maybe ten feet away, arms folded, watching me with that same calm, sick smirk from the hallway. Like this was normal. Like kidnapping his son’s mate and tying her up in a basement happened every Tuesday.
He tilted his head, studying me like I was a mildly interesting bug pinned to a board.
“You sick bastard,” I spat, voice hoarse and raw. “Let me go!”
He chuckled-low, amused, like I’d told a mildly funny joke.
“Relax,” he said smoothly. “I’m just trying to get to know my son’s mate.”
I jerked against the ropes, the chair creaking under me. “Get to know me by kidnapping me and tying me up? You’re insane.”
“Come on,” he drawled, taking one slow step closer “Don’t take it to heart.”
My pulse roared in my ears. I yanked harder, feeling the ropes bite deeper into my skin. Warmth. trickled down my wrists-blood. I didn’t care. I needed out. Needed to get back to Lucien. To
Andrea.
Harrison started circling me-slow, deliberate, like a shark scenting blood. Every step echoed in the small space, making the tension coil tighter in my chest.

“Do you know where this is?” he asked, voice soft, almost conversational.
I didn’t answer. Just glared.

He stopped behind me. I felt his presence-cold, heavy-like a shadow pressing against my back.
“This,” he continued, “is the exact cellar where I kept that evil child. Where I starved him. Beat the s**t out of him. For being an evil child. For taking my mate from me.”
A shiver raced down my spine-cold, violent.
He stepped around to my front again, crouching so we were eye-level.
“And this exact same spot…” His smile widened, slow and cruel. “…is where I’m going to kill his mate. And make him watch.”
The words landed like ice water dumped over my head.
My breath caught.
He straightened, still smiling, like he’d just told me the weather forecast.
“Oh, I know he’s coming,” he added casually. “He always was a stubborn piece of shit.”
I stared at him-really stared. Those brown eyes, so like Lucien’s, but empty. Dead inside. Filled with nothing but hate.
“Why are you doing this?” I whispered, voice shaking despite myself. “He’s your son. He did nothing wrong to you. How can you blame what happened to your mate on him?”
Harrison’s face twisted-sudden, ugly rage flashing across it. He lunged forward, grabbed my chin roughly, fingers digging into my skin.
“I f*****g promised to take care of Hannah,” he snarled, breath hot against my face. “We promised to grow old together. But he took her from me!”
“That wasn’t his fault!” I yelled, jerking against his grip. Pain shot through my jaw, but I didn’t stop.” He was a baby!”
He slapped me-hard, open-handed, the crack echoing off the walls.
My head snapped to the side. Stars burst behind my eyes. Blood filled my mouth.
“Shut the f**k up,” he hissed.
My ears rang. My cheek burned. But I refused to look away. I glared up at him, breathing hard,
chest heaving.
He straightened, rolling his shoulders like he’d just finished a light workout.
“He thought he could have a peaceful life,” he said, voice calm again, almost dreamy. “While he

destroyed mine. I’ve watched him for years. His life has been miserable. It gave me so much joy. On the outside, he was the Beta everyone feared. Made quite a name for himself. But inside..” He tapped his chest. “Inside he knew nothing but misery. Let him understand the misery I had to go through without my mate.”
He paced again-slow, deliberate.
“I had it all planned out for the perfect time. I knew he was going to have a mate one day. And I swore that evil child would pay for his sins. One day”
He stopped in front of me, smiling again.
“I made that maid-Naomi-think I wanted a thing with her. She was just the right instrument. Lucien’s former maid who suddenly returns, pinning the child on him. His perfect little happy bubble burst right in front of his eyes. The child looks like him. How was he going to deny that?”
He laughed-short, sharp, satisfied.
The pieces slammed together in my head.
I froze.
So…Andrea wasn’t Lucien’s child.
Harrison’s smile turned wicked.
“I had someone switch the samples,” he said simply “So the test came out positive.”
My stomach lurched.
Andrea…wasn’t Lucien’s son.
He was Harrison’s.
And Lucien’s half-brother.
This f*****g bastard of a father.
“You’re disgusting,” I whispered, voice shaking with rage. “You think your mate-Hannah-would be happy that you treated her child like this? Never loved him, but spent your whole life blaming him?”
Harrison’s face darkened.
“You know nothing,” he said quietly.
He looked at his watch-casual, almost bored.
“Your mate should be here any time soon.”
The words landed like a punch.
Lucien.

He was coming.
And Harrison was waiting.
Just then, the door at the top of the stairs creaked open.
Heavy footsteps.
Slow. Deliberate,
Then his voice-cold, furious, shaking with barely-contained rage.
“You just won’t die, would you?”
