Chosen By The Cursed Alpha King (Emilia) novel Chapter 89

I didn’t sleep at all.

Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Damien’s face-the pain, the fury, the heartbreak. His words replayed in my head over and over, stabbing deeper each time.

“Now you have his mark on your neck.

I pressed my hand to the spot again, feeling the faint burn beneath my skin. I hated it. I hated what it meant. I hated that I’d hurt him.

The room was still dark when I gave up on sleep entirely. My body felt heavy, my mind scattered. As the first light of dawn crept through the window, I forced myself out of bed. My legs trembled as I walked down the quiet hallway toward Damien’s door.

I stopped in front of it, my hand hovering over the wood.

What would I even say?

Sorry? Again? That word felt too small for what I’d done.

For a moment, I just stood there, staring at the door like it could somehow open itself and make this right. My chest tightened, my throat burned. Finally, I lifted my hand and knocked softly.

“Damien…” My voice cracked. “Please. I just need to make sure you’re okay.”

No answer.

I swallowed hard, my fingers curling against the door. “Please,” | whispered again, my voice trembling. “Damien, talk to me.”

Still nothing.

I knocked again, a little harder this time, my pulse racing. “Damien, please-”

“He’s not in there,” a voice said behind me.

I turned quickly to see Rose standing a few steps away, holding a tray.

My heart dropped. “What?”

She nodded slowly, her expression soft, careful. “He left very early this morning. Didn’t say where. But he looked…” She hesitated, choosing her words. “…angry. And hurt.”

I felt something break inside me.

“Thank you, Rose,” I whispered, my throat tight.

She gave a small nod before walking away, and I just stood there for a moment, staring at Damien’s door. The silence behind it felt louder than anything I’d ever heard.

Then I turned and walked back to my room.

Everything felt numb.

The moment I stepped into the bathroom, I leaned against the sink, gripping the edges tightly. My reflection stared back at me-pale skin, tired eyes, that mark on my neck.

I turned the shower on and stepped under the warm stream, letting the water hit my face, my shoulders, my chest. It did nothing to wash away the heaviness sitting in my heart.

I just stood there, eyes closed, letting the water pour over me.

What have I done?

What are we doing?

I thought of Damien’s eyes, the way they’d looked at me like I’d ripped his soul out. I thought of Maximus, of the mark he’d left, of the chaos that seemed to follow every touch between us.

“We need to stop,

I whispered to myself.

“We need to stop hurting other people.”

But as soon as I said it, the air around me shifted.

A strange hum filled the room, faint but growing louder. My body trembled, and before I could move, a rush of energy exploded through me.

It was like fire under my skin.

I gasped, stumbling back against the wall as the world seemed to blur.

My hands started to glow-blue, bright, alive. The light pulsed through my veins like electricity, and my knees gave out.

I dropped to the floor, gasping for air. “What’s happening-”

Then I heard it.

A voice. Inside my head.

‘It is time.’

My heart stopped.

The morning air was cold and sharp against my skin, biting through the thin fabric of my coat. I pulled it tighter around me as I started walking down the path, my mind spinning.

The wind brushed against my face, but I barely felt it. My thoughts were too loud.

Was that the spirit Raina had warned me about? Miranda’s spirit-the one that could destroy everything?

Or was this something else? Something inside me that had been asleep all these years?

If it was Miranda’s spirit… then I was in danger. We all were.

I needed to find the witch. I needed answers before whatever was nside me took over.

I walked faster, my boots crunching against the gravel. My breath came out in small white clouds. My heart was still racing, every nerve in my body on edge.

I was so lost in thought that I didn’t notice the footsteps behind me.

Didn’t notice the shadow moving closer.

Didn’t notice the faint sound of someone breathing just a few feet away.

Then-

Something hit me hard in the back of the head.

Pain exploded through my skull, white-hot and blinding. I gasped, stumbling forward before my knees gave out. The ground rushed up to meet me.

Everything spun.

My vision blurred.

I tried to lift my hand, to summon that strange energy again-but nothing happened. My fingers twitched uselessly.

Darkness started to creep in from the edges of my vision.

The last thing I saw was a figure standing over me. A shadow. Silent.

Still.

Then everything went black.

And the world disappeared.
