Elianna’s agonizing scream pierced through the walls as the doctors encouraged her to keep pushing. All their voices could be heard from where Alistair and I were standing. Eloise was pacing back and forth, her shoulders tensed.

I stood outside the door and reminded myself that this would be the first and last time Elianna was going to do this. I could handle a lot of things, but never the way she screamed in pain like this.

Hats off to husbands who were able to have many children. How did they handle it when their wives were in labor? How did they endure the torture? Their wives’ labored breaths and their agony, when here I was, frozen, sweating buckets, and could hardly breathe.

Elianna wanted a big family, four kids to be specific, saying that she did not want the baby to grow up lonely which would never happen, if that was what she was worried about. I would surround him with all the werewolves and dragons if needed just so I could convince her that a family of three could also work.

It had to work. Because I didn’t think I could go through this three more times unless the mages found a way to transfer all her discomfort and pain to me during her labor.

Her next scream was followed by the ringing of the alarm set on the island.

Alarms like that only meant one thing.

Alistair grimaced. “Fuck!”

That four-letter word summed it all

They chose this delicate time to attack, knowing that the tamer was in her most vulnerable state. Her hunters wanted to introduce themselves at last.

Anson and Jacques cussed as they dashed outside and shifted, leading their dragons. Aramides hid Eloise behind him protectively, as we dealt with the garbage who had already invaded the mansion.

Two werewolves growled inside the treatment room. One was Lizbeth, I was certain, as something heavy slammed against the door.

“Creed!” Eloise cried out. “There is another wolf inside-”

Before she could end her sentence, the door broke, revealing the two wolves who were on either side of Elianna’s bed. My sister’s.

Eloise gasped, her eyes wide as she took me in. “Y-yours?”

“Mine,” I confirmed as I roasted the body that Lizbeth tossed that broke the door.

My beast had been Elianna’s quiet protector since arriving on the island. Did they think I would let the mother of my child enter a room without me there? Unprotected? Wherever she went, half of me was always there in the shadows, guarding.

After Elianna was taken away from me the first time, I thought of ways to ensure it would not happen the second time.

“H-how?” Eloise asked as she covered Bridget’s eyes to stop her from seeing the faces of the men who were coming our way. She whispered something in my niece’s ear, making her fall asleep in a second. She carried her in her arms as she used her own mana to fight. There was no safe place for any of them anymore. Her eyes turned misty as she shook her head. “No. Don’t answer that. But… thank you, Creed.”

Aramides looked like he had a ton of questions but then he opted for a pat on my shoulder, pride filling his eyes. “I don’t know how you did that, son. That must have been hell, separating half of yourself from your body, separating the very thing that makes you ‘you.”

No man was able to separate their beasts from them. Mana made it possible. Hell would not even suffice. It tore my limbs apart, crushed my body, and roasted my brain in different ways. But would I go through that again? Fucking yes.

All for my mate.

No pain could still beat losing her.

I could feel gazes on me and a barrage of questions everyone wanted to ask if only we were not in the middle of a crisis. The next attacker was the very guard outside the mansion although he looked different now with half of his face darkened, those bloodshot eyes, and that stench of a corpse he now possessed.

Every single attacker was easier to recognize now. That was when I recalled that he was among the people who ate the dinner that Elianna served. Aramides shifted on his wolf form, Alistair guarded the door while I positioned myself near the bed as Elianna’s scream cut through the air, she was sweating and crying. Her face was paler now. And I could not even hold her.

Two of her doctors were on the floor, bleeding. Only one remained standing while my beast and Lizbeth’s kept tearing apart the flesh of anyone who invaded the room through the windows. I casted another barrier around Elianna and the doctor although using mana while fighting was depleting my energy quicker than

before.

Through the broken windows, I saw the dragons burning the attackers from above. There were hundreds of them, rushing towards the mansion like hungry demons looking for a meal. Dale rushed in the hallway with blood on his clothes and a dagger in his hand, helping Alistair.

“You are doing great. I can see the head now, your highness! Please keep pushing!” the female doctor urged.

Elianna stopped screaming as if she no longer had the strength to do so. She was gripping the mattress, tears sliding on her cheeks that were now drained of color.

My hand pierced through the heart of the rotten soul who thought he could get his filthy hand on her. I crushed his heart and stepped on it as I hurried to the bed and held Elianna’s hand with my bloody ones. I kissed her forehead. “Hang in there, love. I am with you. It will be over soon. We will be meeting our son very soon. Everything is going to be fine.”

I wanted her to deliver our baby in a safe place where she was comfortable. Never like this.

Elianna nodded as I kissed her tears away.
