“Oops. Sorry.”
No, this son of a gun didn’t look sorry at all. I took a deep breath This was the second time that an alpha slammed against my shoulder and then proceeded to run, feigning innocence while his friends behind me laughed.
Their faces were familiar although I’d forgotten where I’d seen of met them. One of them stood out in particular because he was sporting a black eye. He seemed to be the leader of the alphas who had been targeting me since the morning run
started.
I wasn’t new to this. I’d been bullied a lot while growing up. Maybe that was the reason why even if my dad was the kindest person on earth, he taught me everything he knew about fighting as a former pack enforcer.
He made sure I wouldn’t have to go home crying. I’d return with some bruises, yes, but my enemies always had it worse.
My mom must have been the opposite of my dad because if he was patient, I wasn’t. My temper had always been shorter than me, another reason why I kept being punished when I was in House Lemadon.
Because I always fought back.
I couldn’t do that here though. I bit my lower lip to stop myself from cursing the hell out of the alpha who stomped on my boot. Laurent was leading the morning run and if he were to catch me making a commotion, I was sure he would not leave me unpunished.
When was this hell of a run going to end? My throat was dry. I’d do anything for a bottle of water. My knees were also getting weaker. Running on an empty stomach was a bad idea. My shirt was drenched from sweat. We’d been running for two hours and a half now. According to the rule book, this was only supposed to be an hour every day.
“Faster!” Laurent commanded.
When I glanced at him, there wasn’t even a drop of sweat on his face. While we were huffing, especially me, I probably looked like I was dying now, his breathing was still calm and steady. He was running just like us and yet, he didn’t look tired at all. Whoever said the moon goddess was fair?
She wasn’t.
Laurent was clearly her favorite.
This was surely his doing. He extended the morning run. He was a demon sent to torture our souls.
Another psycho deliberately made me trip with his foot. I didn’t notice because I was busy avoiding Sebastian, another goddess’ favorite, damn him, as he ran past us as if his ass was on fire. He seemed better now compared to his condition a few hours ago when I left him in the bathroom, lost under the shower, with his lips parted, looking like he was in the middle of having an existential crisis,
The men’s laughter brought me back to the present, the sound echoed in the woods as they witnessed me fall flat on my face.
As the men moved past me, here I was, groaning as I struggled rise. The metallic taste of blood filled my mouth when my lower lip bled when I fell. My muscles ached. I didn’t take the elikir this morning. I was saving it for an emergency since I only had nine bottles of them.
“This is what happens when you force yourself into a place you don’t belong.”
I glanced up and found Laurent standing before me like some sort of a god. I bet he knew what his students did to me. And yet, I was the one being mocked like this,

Those words were written in his eyes. But if I gave a damn about his opinion, I would have left the first time he warned me. I forced my body to keep moving and grinned at him. This much wouldn’t kill me. This bullying? This was nothing compared to what I’d been through.
“I heard you’re a dragon, Prof,” I said instead.
He just raised a brow as if talking to me was a waste of his precios saliva.
“It means you’re very old. Ancient. If there’s someone who shouldn’t be here, isn’t it supposed to be you? Lucky you, Prof. You’re rich. You can afford maintenance.” I tiptoed and whispered in his ear. “But don’t focus on me too much. I don’t want to be the cause of your heart attack. I heard that’s common for old people.”
I didn’t wait for his response anymore. I bolted when I heard his wolf growl and then the sound changed, morphing into a dragon’s roar. I didn’t dare look back. The wind blew stronger than before. The tree branches swayed violently, a proof that the dragon in him was enraged.
I ran faster than before and ignored the fuss the alphas made on their own even if the center of the fuss was Sebastian whose knuckles smashed onto the two alphas who again, looked familiar for some reason.
Thanks to them, Laurent had to cut the morning run short. I was already at the dining hall when I finally remembered them. Sebastian’s victims were the ones who tripped me and slammed against me. And the person with the black eye who seemed to be the leader of their gang was the man who knocked on our room at midnight. I’d forgotten about them because I was too distracted when I saw Sebastian on my bed first thing in the morning.
Now I knew why my fist was throbbing. It was because of that person they called Lance.
I didn’t want to question why Sebastian did that. It was their problem. I lined up by the counter and grabbed my tray to find a quiet place to eat. I couldn’t stay here. All their stupid whispers were getting to me.
“Why did you think Sebastian did that?”
“Why don’t you ask the pretty boy himself? I bet he used his face and body to win him over.”
Some fucker gasped. “You think Ari spread his legs for Sebastian”
“Why not? He looks like he’d do anything to climb on top. Honestly, I can’t blame Sebastian. He should tell us once he’s done with the pretty boy. Even I want to have a taste.”
“Hey, shut up! If Sebastian hears you, he’ll get you next! Did you see what happened to Lex and Carl? They could barely walk!”
The whispers stopped when I paused directly in front of their tale. Anger buzzed beneath my skin as I raised my middle finger before walking out of the hall.
I found a place under the tree at the back of a building that reminded me of Laurent. It was very old, the roofs were sagging, the windows were crooked, and there was moss covering almost the entire building. Maybe that was the reason why nobody seemed to be using it anymore. But that was bound to change.
I was here now.
Finally, some peace and quiet.
I plopped down on the grass and was about to start my breakfast when I felt an unwanted presence. “Goddamn it.”
Said presence just chuckled behind me. Seconds later, McAllister showed up and sat beside me, not caring about his

“Afternoons and evenings too,” I answered as I started with my soup before it got even colder.
Since he was still bonded with me, he wouldn’t be able to kill me even if I didn’t stand and bow before him. Although Aidan didn’t seem bothered that I didn’t greet him properly. In fact, he didn’t seem to care about his royal status as he sat here with me.
I felt the prince watching me the whole time. Against my will, I lifted the sandwich to his direction. “Would you like some, your highness?”
