Chapter 19

Chapter 19

(Creed)

“The experiment has begun. The second batch of the humans have entered the laboratory this morning,” I reported in front of the King, the prince, and the council. I pressed the button, and the big screen revealed the video clips of said humans who arrived at the island this morning.

“What are we going to do next?” one of the lords asked.

I smirked. “And now we wait.”

The humans involved in Project X were the same humans who murdered the shifters, including my father. After stealing our treasure and failing to become one of us, they betrayed our kind. For decades, they lived in luxury which their children inherited, including the knowledge about the shifters that only selected humans knew. Their greed was later passed onto their children. They sold our treasures, stole our business plans, used them and became known all over the world, while hiring mercenaries to hunt for any trace of us.

The children’s goal was different from their parents. Like the wizards from the past, they wanted shifters as their slaves: males to become their guards while females to act as their bedroom toys. Their thirst for shifters became severe upon discovering our omegas.

After years of meticulous planning, we were able to invade their realm unnoticed and sparked their interest with a proposal they could not resist by stepping into their world and becoming the greatest villain they had ever met. Their greed knew no bounds. When I presented rogues as traps, as creatures I hunted down, they fell into it. Equipped with modern

technologies and the best doctors and inventors all over the world, Project X was launched.

Wealth was not enough. They wanted power, pleasure, and strength like no other. Most of all, they wanted to live longer so they could crush more people and take over the world, including our realm. Their goal was to create their own hybrid soldiers to conquer us. I knew. They told me so and even invited me to join their quest in conquering the world. Most of them even believed that I would personally lead them to it, the same way I led them to this project which nobody deemed possible until me.

“Wait for what?” the King asked impatiently while tapping his fingers onto the table.

“For their death.”

After witnessing the success of their staff who they threw into the lab as testers, especially after seeing me go through it a week ago along with two men in their sixties who also belonged in the twelve families, they were all desperate for their turn. Especially Landon Richards, the last to join the project.

In the following weeks, once they were done with the experiment, their dreams/would come true.

They would be declared as hybrid shifters. They would become stronger. Faster. Younger.

Just not for a long time.

Eventually, one by one they would feel the effects of the rogues’ blood in their bodies. Death was too easy and none of the shifters wanted that. When the real effect started, it would ruin them and the empire they built. They would lose themselves in front of the very humans who worshiped them, who bowed to them. They would learn what it felt to be betrayed in the most painful way possible. Every minute of every day, they would wish they were dead.

“We will make them regret messing with the shifters. However, good things, as you all know, take time, my lords. When the experiments are over, when they least expect it, when they think they are so close to their goals, that’s when the side effects will strike.”

The men smiled as darkness consumed their eyes.

The humans messed with the wrong monsters. As evil as they may be, they could not be compared to the devil that we could be when we snapped.

After the meeting, the King commanded me to stay behind inside the conference room.

“How was your human mate?” he asked as he stood beside the’glass wall and stared at the city with a wine glass in his

hand.

“Elianna is fine, your majesty.”

I left her in my office to see her mother and to chat with her nurse. The girls asked for my permission to stay with her while

cursing when the night was over.

“I heard what she did at the cursed river,” the King said, his voice devoid of any emotions. “Bring her to the party. I want to meet the mortal whom my granddaughter could not stop bragging about.”

“The mortal has a name, your majesty. It’s Elianna. I can’t promise you anything. Elianna may look fine on the outside, but she needs plenty of rest. She was traumatized.”

think I still don’t know you by now, Creed? I practically raised you. I know when you are making excuses. Bring the human there. If you are worried about me bringing up Katrice or your possible marriage, I won’t. Just take her there. I will see you both in two days.”

His Majesty left upon delivering his final command for the day. Until the end, he did not mention Vicious’ name like doing so was beneath him.

I breathed sharply and headed out. Dale was waiting at the gate. Both of us wasted no time. As soon as I slid into the back seat, he started the engine.

“So, did the King have a change of heart about Eli?” he asked during the drive. “I heard the servants talking. Some of therm are also curious about the princess’ human savior. We all know Emma. She always likes to keep things to herself, to hide either in the library, or in her room. But I heard she was the one who came to His Majesty and asked him to allow Eli to grace the foundation party. Imagine his surprise when his beloved grandchild finally asked him for something.”

And the King had to give it, whatever it was. His guilt would always make him say yes to her since he considered himself the main reason why Emmanuelle lost her mother at a young age.

I shrugged. At least, it became clear why he suddenly insisted on meeting Vicious when this morning, he looked ready to do everything to get rid of her.

“Poor royals. They didn’t even know Emma had a boyfriend. She kept it so well, even used some sort of a disguise.” Dale shook his head. “I bet even the jackass ex didn’t know she was the princess, and he treated her like that. If Eli wasn’t there, Emma would have suffered, and the ex would have died.”

That was for sure. The King would definitely retaliate. Minor or not, the ex would lose his head.

“His Majesty wants me to bring Vicious to the party.”

Dale whistled. “Wow. That was some great development right there. So, are you going to bring her?”

The throbbing in my head returned when I thought about it. “Bringing Vicious to the party will not be a problem at all, Dale. The problem is the kind of trouble her unstoppable mouth would bring at the party.”

Dale laughed, probably remembering all the madness Vicious just uttered in front of the prince. It was not like I could zip her mouth. The only way to make her behave was through threatening her like her husband did.

But I wanted her to run to me. Not run from me.

When we returned, the girls were at the shore, drinking. Their cheeks were red; their words were slurred. Just how long had they been drinking? Silver and Shanty even raced to the shore while my men became busy chasing after them out of worry.

“If someone in this realm is giving you a hard time, tell us,” Lizbeth said loudly, with her hand on Vicious’ shoulder. “We will avenge you. That’s what friends are for.”

I walked towards them. Vicious lifted her head, her eyes widening, as she pointed a finger at me.

“There he is! The man who’s giving me a hard time!”

Carmie narrowed her eyes. “Is he the perverted bastard you were talking about?”

“Yes!”

Goddamn it. Lizbeth and her friends strived to be good citizens as much as possible, they aimed to set a good example to Bridget. But each time there was liquor involved, they became quite the opposite. The worst part? None of these silly bunch could recognize the people in front of them when drunk.

I was not sure what to feel about this sisterhood they built together. My sister, especially her wolf, was normally wary of strangers. But for some reason, it seemed like her wolf approved of Vicious. In fact, I could see their wolves acting like puppies, wagging their tails at her. What the heck was happening?

Should I be relieved for Vicious or worried for my sister and pack members?

I glanced at Dale. “Tell the men to hide all the alcohol from the girls starting tomorrow.”

He nodded, amused. “As you wish, alpha.”

I turned to the star of the day.

“I didn’t know you were telling your new friends the nicest things about me, Vicious,” I said as I pulled her up.

She beamed at me drunkenly. Her cheeks were flushed. “I told them you’re a psycho too!”

I raised a brow. She looked so proud I could not even get mad. “You did? Good job, I guess?”

She giggled. “I know, right?”

“Have you had your fun?”

“Yes!”

I carried her over my shoulder. “Good. I believe I’ve been lenient towards you, Vicious. Now it’s time to teach you some manners.”
