Fixer POV
“They are here.” Another spoke out.
“So it seems, okay for my benefit, let’s go around the room, stand, introduce yourself, and what you do for the company, and where.”
Slowly, they went around the room, some standing proud, others not so sure, and the now-fired men, with bitterness. Gramps knew I was going to do this and had already put someone in their place. Together, we talked about this over a video chat and came up with the idea for me to come in strong and put them on the back foot, worrying about their own positions, at how easily I fired people.
Building security entered the room as the last two men introduced themselves.
“Have these men escorted out, ensure they hand over all company property,” I commanded security. After a brief look at Gramps, they complied. I didn’t like that they checked with him first. Gramps had already organised the removal of their things from the hotels and homes, as they were company housing, as a package deal. I was leaving any police involvement to Gramps, since he knew more about this than I did. I just got the basics.
After another three hours of talks, the secretary team brought in a late lunch.
“Fixer, you may not remember me. We met at the camping trip that went badly.” One of the men held out his hand for me to shake.
“Dodger?” I had met many that day.
“Correct, I never thought I would see a cut in the boardroom, you do your club proud.” He complimented me.
“Thank you, any others here?” I asked, looking around the room.
“Yes, I am Spokes, the president of the Bandfield club.” He moved forward and shook my hand.
“Springer, president of the Mayfield club, and I believe you are now the owner of the town, and us.
We have much to talk about when this is over.”
“Agreed.”
Now I could see why Gramps was smiling when we met over the video call that first time, and had seen the cut, that first day. He had connections to a club, too. They didn’t look at all in our few meetings.
“Your Grams didn’t like that side anymore; when our boy reached school age, I retired from the club and dug deep into family business, because my wife wanted a high society life, not the club-related one. I still get involved with the club, go on rides when I can, but business has become too much to enjoy that lifestyle. That’s what happens when your empire gets this large, and you keep doing more instead of delegating and doing exactly what you just did. Now let’s get this meeting finished, and have some fun.”
The rest of the meeting flowed, and we achieved our goals for the day, after the bulk of the managers left, all with a different perspective on moving forward.
“Let’s go to a restaurant and chat.” We’re all in agreement: Gramps leads the way to a nearby restaurant; we were led to a quiet section at the back; ties were removed; jackets were put on the backs of chairs; and attitudes relaxed.
“Sir, when you said we were in for a surprise today, that your Granddaughter had taken over, I was not expecting to see Fixer walk in with you; that made my day. I was worried she was someone who would not agree with our lifestyle and make things difficult when she found out we were bike-related enthusiasts.” I broke out in laughter at his polite way of putting it, ‘bike-related enthusiasts’ indeed.
“Fixer hasn’t had it easy, but things are changing for the better.” Gramps started to say, but our drinks arrived; they served our table first, before supplying food and drink to the other three tables, where our guards were seated.
“Can we wear our suits to work?” One asked, and I smiled.
“I don’t see why not, Gramps?” I deferred to him, as he had a better understanding of the dynamics of their areas.
“With you being in a different club, how will that affect us? Like you own our club, the property. I don’t want to merge. Can we stay as the Mayfield club?”
Home came into sight, and it made me feel relieved that the expansion was far enough away the main house, and from here, the start of the small runway had begun, just out of town, ten minutes from our home, yet still on my property. This will be a boon for our town and the few close by, something we should have had years ago.
Savage did what he had to do, closing down the chopper, and I headed inside in search of Prez.
I found him in the lounge. Sticks was feeding the baby; she had a baby blanket over her shoulder, hiding what she was doing. Not everyone wants to watch it. Blaze, Zero, and Tank were all there. Melony was in the kitchen, and Jenny was still at work; she would return tomorrow.
“Hey, how did your meeting go?” Tank asked, pulling me onto his lap.
“Good, better than I hoped for, but I need to talk to you all regarding the Jones Gang.” I snuggled into Tank’s arms.
“Our members agreed that we need to reach out and try to help,” Blaze answered as Melony came in and plonked herself on Zero’s lap. He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close, just like Tank does.
“No need, already have help on the way. What I need to talk about is the gang. I met up with Dodger, Spinger, and Spokes today, and they are organising a meeting between the last remaining club members. The town will be renamed back to the original town name.”
“What? How?” Prez asked, looking a little angry that I had talked to other presidents in clubs.
“Don’t get your panties in a twist. There was over three hundred dead in that town, the storm did a lot of damage, I met the guys at the board meeting seems they work for me, and I own a lot of club grounds, and as of today, own the Jones Gang town, and club land, we talked and agree, to help the remaining ones, we are one big community, and should be there for fellow clubs, if they stuck, like this, I don’t mean we get into the club politics, but if they need a hand why would we not help?” I replied softly, trying to ease the rising tension.
The cat’s out of the bag now. Zero, Blaze, and Melony just learned I was well off. The look of shock on their faces said a lot.
“I will contact Dodger and organise that meeting.” He didn’t mention my ownership or give any indication of how he felt about it, but it is what it is, and hopefully things will change for the better.
