Cloe POV
A soft voice nearby roused me from my sleep.
“Oh, at last, you are awake. How did you enjoy the game? Great, wasn’t it? Razor got man of the match, he deserved it.” Penny didn’t wait for me to answer; she just kept asking questions and putting in her own answers. Razor was sitting next to her, holding a trophy, nodding and smiling. Like it was perfectly normal for Penny to ramble on the way she was.
“Can I look at your trophy? Razor.” I asked softly, my voice still rough as the remnants of sleep slipped away.
“Sure.” Razor’s beaming smile, full of pride, was worth more than the trophy to me. It was heavier than I had expected, and his name was already engraved on it. Wow, that was fast.
“They have an engraver at the rink?” I asked as I continued to inspect the trophy.
“Yep, they brought a kit a few years ago, so the little ones got to have their name on their als straight away, and now they do it for all trophies and medals. Cool. Yeah?” Razor, as I handed the trophy back. It was a beautiful trophy, one to be proud of, that’s for
proud, you were awesome. Thank you for giving me your heart on that first goal. I loved ow are the bruises?” Razor lifted his shirt to show me some of them. They were not as as I had thought they would be; their padding takes a lot of the hit. But that doesn’t stop bruising and pain associated with the brutal side of the game.
talked and laughed about the game, and some were about Penny’s friends and how they it to date Razor now that he’s famous. At fifteen, Razor was already a good-looking man his father and brothers, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he had a gaggle of giggling girls owing him around. He’s at that age where he might be tempted to learn about his body, I a girl, but something tells me, he’s not going to be a ladies’ man, maybe some trial and ›r for a few years, but then become like his brother and father, a kind, softy, that respects a man, more than uses her.
ink of Storm, and how he blew into my life like a knight in shining armour. At first, I ught it was all pity and a hero image, that he wanted to protect the damsel in distress. He d he wanted more, but I still had doubts about the true reason behind his feelings for me.
But watching and thinking about Razor, and what my opinion of how Razor was becoming a fine young man, no huge ego, had me thinking of Storm and Tank. Tank loves Fixer, their love was as obvious as we need air to breathe. Storm’s mannerisms and looks are almost a carbon copy of Tank’s. Can’t say mini Tank, because they are the same height, both huge, giants. But both have the calm way about them, assessing before acting.
In the short time I have been living here, I have never seen either of them lose their temper. Or show signs of violence against their own. I don’t doubt they wouldn’t hesitate to give someone who’s not family a bloody nose if needed, but it wouldn’t be because they lost control, or because they were angry and needed to let off steam on someone. They don’t do violence for violence’s sake; it’s controlled, calm, and calculated. That’s what I see; there might be more to it behind the scenes. If the family were in danger, they would react, just like I did to protect Grams. All these security men about the place are here to do the protecting, so they don’t need to fight unnecessarily, but I am not fooled; they can defend and protect. I have seen Tank and Storm in the training room; they don’t go easy on each other. I flinched each time I heard the skin contact; they don’t hold back. I push that memory behind me and try to stay focused on the kids as they talk animatedly about the day.
My bladder tells me it needs emptying, and for some reason, it doesn’t feel right asking the young ones for help. I was about to ask Penny if she could locate Storm when he walked into the room, scanning me up and down to make sure I was okay.
“We have some old out-of-date phones. You should pull them apart and investigate the coding on them. You might be surprised what a phone can actually do.” Penny continued, not knowing she had just opened a can of worms that I didn’t want opened. Penny left the table, dragging Razor with her, to talk about the next game and what he might like for her pompom or a banner of some kind. Her endless energy was exhausting.
“You never pulled apart a phone? Not even one of your sisters, old ones?” Tank asked, he was sitting opposite me, and was nearly finished with his plate, while Zoro and Storm had left to refill theirs.
“I was never allowed a phone, it was only because my sister wanted me to come do her hair, or something for a party she was going out to, that Dad decided I needed a phone, and I gained her old broken one, with all the apps removed, only the song play list was left, and Dad’s and Mia’s number listed. He would check my phone each week to ensure I wasn’t using it to chase boys, or download apps to have fun, so no, I wasn’t game to try and check out the phones. I know a bit about them; it was covered in my course, but I didn’t really take it all in, just enough to pass that section and move on. It’s not like I had a physical phone to pull apart at the time and see what the course notes were saying.” I shrugged, it was no big deal, I hadn’t done much with the new phone, most likely because of the fear of it being checked up on, which was silly, I can’t see this family doing that, but it’s stuck in my head, not to touch,
“We have a whole box of old phones, some still work. I will bring it to your office, and you can play to your heart’s content. Learn all about the phone’s workings, who knows, you might be able to make a super strong phone with all the parts.” Tank smiled, having just given me a gift. I guess in some ways they had, but it still gave me the chills down my spine at the thought of pulling phones apart, after all the beatings I had to convince me never to do that.
I stared at him, in shock, they would let me pull apart phones?
My face must have shown my shock, because Tank started to chuckle, along with Fixer.
