Storm POV
Today was my hardest day in my life.
I had said goodbye to my friends last night, and that was hard, but now, holding Mum as she cried in my arms, tore me apart in ways I hadn’t thought possible. I never ever wanted to hurt Mum, but this move felt like I had, even though Dad and Mum more or less pushed it on us. Saying we needed a fresh start, learn to support each other, and this was a great opportunity.
I made promises to keep in contact, which I will, not sure about everyday, but as often as I can. They promised to visit and make a monthly family dinner time, either we visit home, or they come to us. I was happy with both options, but I will play it by ear. The chopper took off, and I waved at Mum, Dad and the family, as they waved back, Penny crying, Dad holding her to his side. It hit Penny hard. I hate hurting my family. The pain of leaving the nest sucks. I was grateful to Cloe for holding my hand and not trying to comfort me with heartfelt, meaningless words. I know anything she would say would be spoken with good intentions, but staying quiet and letting me absorb all this meant far more to me. The occasional squeeze of my hand was all Cloe did, as comfort.
“Homes in sight,” Gramps spoke over the headset, breaking my woe, it’s me, fest.
“Home, that sounds nice, I need a place to call home,” Cloe said, that hurt, thinking of the home I had just left, but then she thought about it from her side of it. I guess it really was her first home. I have been worried about her returning here, after Gram’s death, but Cloe had reassured me that she was fine, that Grams was a wonderful, confused woman, and her leaving was a blessing for Grams, and if here was where Grams wanted her to be, and care for all her treasures, and plants, Cloe would do her best, to fill that need.
The staff were pleasant enough and greeted both Gramps and Cloe with warmth. They were more curious about greeting me; they had met me plenty of times, but now, as a boss of sorts, they might be wondering what I would be like as their boss. They will tread more carefully around me, I guess, until they get used to me.
We spent the morning sorting out our room and settling in when Jip arrived, I introduced Cloe to him, grabbed the bag Dad gave me with the cuts in it, and took him to the office.
“Jip, Dad made our cuts, and we need to give Cloe Her road name. Do you think we can do both tomorrow?” I left that open to Jip; he knows the men, and what can be organised at a drop of a hat, while I get my feet wet. So to speak.
“Perfect.” He went to open the bag, and I put my hand on his to stop him. He looked up at me in shock.
“Dad wants it to be a surprise.”
“Got it, I will check it out back at the clubhouse. We can make it a big celebration, welcoming our new President and our top lady. Some of the ladies will be disappointed; word has got out that you are joining us. But no one knows that you have already been taken; this is going to be a riot.” Jip looked too pleased for my liking.
“Do I need to worry?” I smirked, feeling this was some fun, seeing what my lady was capable of, against the wannabes.
“Nope, you’re the boss, and they want to be lady boss, like most wannabes, you got this.” Jip laughed. He put the bag down, staring at it longingly, before turning his full attention back to me.
“Got it.” We talked more about tomorrow, which will be an early afternoon induction to the club, what to expect, how many will attend, the ceremony, and then the doors will open to visitors.
