Chapter 318

Tracey POV

“I found one. I found one,” I shouted excitedly. I was going through some information on a computer that Fixer had sent me. Fixer had sent me; she had been changing who was reviewing each item to give different eyes, and we think differently. Fixer thought, as I am good with puzzles, I should give the coded and cryptic ones a go.

Straight away, my brain started changing words, picking up nuances and small repeated words, and I managed to make a spreadsheet of what words might mean and see where they went.

“What did you find?” Fixer asked, looking up from the mobile phone she had been working on. “A manufacturer of drugs, and I think one of the distributors. I feel I have broken the code.” Fixer and Tempest came beside me to look over my shoulder.

“Show us what you mean,” Tempest asked, looking blankly at my screen.

“This spreadsheet is the template of the words and what I believe they mean. Look at this invoice. Use the template for the words, and you get this.” I pointed to a Word document I had opened to write out what the codes meant.

“Well, done, that makes sense, and that place does exist. I have seen it in my travels.” Fixer patted

me on my back.

“Take your time, start another page on the spreadsheet, list all the places and any names you find, and what role they play. I have managed to open the mobile, send me that template, and I can start working on the mobile. Tempest, you keep reviewing the footage.” Fixer gave us our orders. When Gramps walked in, he had gone to work in his office, when he received a phone call, and was walking in with the trolley, coffee, and snacks on board.

“Gramps, Tracey cracked the code,” Tempest proudly stated, as we all stood to get coffee. I took a muffin and coffee back to my desk, eager to continue. Now I had something to go on; there were still words to make sense of, but it would fall into place as I found common phrases and links.

“Way to go, Tracey, you’re the champ, I knew you could do it.” Fixer congratulated me, boosting my

confidence.

Once I had the formula, we moved through the correspondence quickly, finding that many people’s names were involved. It was not just out of state, but some overseas contacts, too. Gramps contacted Alan, who had already returned, and a phone call had him rushing back to his office.

“Look at this!” Tempest called out. She had been reviewing footage.

“That son of a basket,” Gramps was fuming; the traitor was the last man Gramps would have thought would do the dirty on him or this family.

“Tracey had a look at the phone logs, thinks some are coded,” Fixer said, sending me the messages to this computer for me to work on.

The guys arrived, just as I finished this set of letters from the phone. Fixer filled them in, and Gramps explained why he was so upset. I don’t blame him. If that man were like a son, that’s a huge kick in the teeth (if he had any) for Gramps.

Dinner was, as Zero said, fun, laughter, and forgetting all that had gone on so far today, and that was a lot. The men would never talk about what was going on in the cells, at the table, and I am glad they don’t think my stomach could cope with that. At the table, I can still smell that place, even after a shower; it’s not a smell I will forget any time soon.

About nine o’clock, Gramps asked Dirk to bring the man into the office. He was going to talk to him there, friendly at first, and let him confess. We were all in the office, sitting around casually, coffee or a drink in hand, trying to give off a happy vibe.

He entered, looked around, a smile on his face, like he hadn’t betrayed us.

“Hi everyone,” Darius grinned and shook hands with some of the guys.

We greeted him back and talked for a while about the lockdown and how he was coping.

Gramps nodded to Dirk, and Dirk came up behind Darius and showed him the footage of his first betrayal.

“Care to explain this?” Dirk asked, invading his personal space.

“It’s not what it looks like.”

“Explanation is what I asked for.” Dirk tried again.

“He had my girlfriend. I don’t know where, or if she’s still alive.” He sobbed back.

“That’s no excuse. Why didn’t you come to us?”

“I couldn’t risk it.”

“Agreed, you should all be proud of yourselves. This was a big job, and you all proved to be up to the challenge,” Tank said with pride, patting Storm on the back. It was a big challenge for Storm, his first big job as President, and he passed with flying colours.

Doom lay me on the bed, pulled off my shoes and clothes, and left me lying there naked, as he started to strip off his clothes.
