Chapter 124
When Asher came into my room the next day, I was ready for him.
I stood silently beside the door, watching. He didn’t notice me at first. He scanned the room, a slow smile curling on his lips as if he knew something I didn’t. Then he stepped inside and closed the door behind him. That’s when he saw me. His smile widened.
“You knew I was here,” I said, accusingly.
“You were breathing,” he replied smoothly. “You should’ve held your breath.”
I scoffed, annoyed at the way he acted like he always had the upper hand.
“I could’ve attacked you.”
“I don’t think you’d take that risk,” he said coolly. “You have someone in this house you care about. Someone you know I could hurt in retaliation.”
His words hit like ice, and I glared at him. He smiled so smugly as if he’d won a game I didn’t even agree to play.
He walked farther into the room, turned toward me again, and with exaggerated flair, checked his watch.
“Time’s ticking,” he said, before delivering the line I’d been dreading.
“Take your clothes off.”
“No,” I said firmly, lifting my chin. “I’m not sleeping with you.”
He raised an eyebrow, eyes gleaming with amusement.
“Who said anything about sleeping? This place is for fucking. Sleeping happens at my house, with my beautiful wife. Here, here is where I get what I pay for. Now, take off your clothes and bend over.”
The rage inside me ignited like a fire. I wanted to slap him. I wanted to scream. I wanted to break the sick grin off his face.
“If your wife is so beautiful, so angelic,” I said, my voice trembling with bitterness, “then why don’t you go home and fuck her instead? Go. Nobody’s holding you here. Nobody even wants you here.”
He laughed.
“Just because I’m married… just because I love my wife,” he said with a smirk, “doesn’t mean I don’t want to have a whore or two. It’s a boost, you know? Helps me reset. I come here to release all the anger, all the hate. And when I go home, I’m calm. I make love to her because I’ve already emptied every dirty part of me… inside you. That’s why I’m here.”

His words hit harder than a slap. I don’t know why, but they did. They really did.
Still, I forced myself to argue. I had to keep talking to distract myself from the sting in my chest, from the tears that were dangerously close to falling.
“You don’t love her,” I said quietly. “If you did, you wouldn’t do this. This…. is cheating.”
He scoffed. “This is the mafia, Ariella. You grew up in this world. This isn’t cheating. This is me keeping a mistress or two. You think you’re the only whore I’ve ever kept in one of these houses?”
He laughed again, cold and mocking.
“There’s nothing special about you, Ariella.”
My heart twisted. “But you promised me,” I said, voice barely above a whisper. “You promised me that when we got married, you wouldn’t have mistresses. That there wouldn’t be anyone else. It would be just me….”
He threw his head back and laughed harder this time, almost amused to the point of cruelty. He sat on the edge of the bed, shaking his head.
“And you believed that?” he asked disbelief in his tone. “Are you stupid? Crazy?”
I hesitated, then answered with what felt like the truth.
“Yes,” I said simply. “I believed you.”
I looked at him then, really looked, and added, “If you really love this wife of yours, I don’t think you should come here anymore.”
He chuckled, still shaking his head. “You really thought I’d only ever be with you?” he repeated, laughing again like it was the funniest thing he’d ever heard.
And in that moment, I realized something painful and permanent.
I had loved a version of him that probably never truly existed.
“You believed that?” he asked again, voice dripping with mockery.
“Yes,” I said simply because I did. I believed every word he ever told me. “I loved you, and you loved me. We were in love. I know you meant that ”
He rolled his eyes. “You think just because I say I love you, it means I actually do? You do realize people lie all the time, right? They say what the other person wants to hear.”
“No,” I said firmly. “You loved me. I know you did.”
He scoffed. “Just like you loved me, huh? I guess we were on the same page. And no, just in case you were wondering… you were never going to be the only woman I got to fuck. I told you that to make you feel better about yourself, to make you feel special. But even when we were

dating, I was seeing other women. I was fucking around.”
My stomach dropped.
“We have a gentleman’s club, Ariella. I was a regular there. I wasn’t going to stop just because we got married. Hell, I didn’t stop, not even when we were dating.”
“No!” I cut him off, my voice shaking. “You’re lying. You’re lying! You were faithful to me. I know that.”
“And how would you know?” he sneered. “Were you carrying my dick around with you? Keeping it in your purse?”
“Because I trusted you!” I shouted. “Because I believed you would never lie to me.”
He laughed cruelly. I continued,
“I’m not stupid, Asher. I know you. I am sure about you..”
And then, suddenly, his smile vanished. Something in his eyes snapped dark and vicious.
