Claimed By The Mafia Don (Ariella and Asher) novel Chapter 240

ARIELLA

“No, it’s not too much,” I quickly said.

I thought about it, trying to reason through my discomfort. I didn’t want to make this more complicated for him. And he was right, thinking about Leon and having him switch houses and schools so soon after everything… it was too much.

“I think we’re going to be okay,” I said finally, staying in the moment, even though I cringed at the thought of going back to that house.

“Are you sure?” he asked, his voice edged with concern, eyes locked on my face as if reading every thought.

I nodded slowly, trying to steady my shaking hands. “Yes,” I whispered, my voice barely audible. “I think… I think we’ll be okay.”

He studied me for a moment longer, his gaze softening. “Okay,” he said finally, a hint of relief breaking through his worry. “I just want to make sure you’re safe… and that Leon has some stability. That’s all that matters.”

I offered a small, tired smile, feeling the weight of the past few days settle on me. “I know. And thank you… for everything.”

He reached out, brushing a strand of hair from my face. “You don’t need to thank me,” he said gently. “I’m not going anywhere, Ariella. Not for Leon, not for you.”

For a moment, I just let his words sink in, feeling the warmth of his presence beside me. It wasn’t the resolution I wanted, not yet, but it was a start. And for now, that had to be enough.

Leon stirred in his sleep, murmuring softly. I glanced at him and then back at Asher. We both watched him for a moment in silence, the quiet of the hospital room.

"About me leaving," Asher suddenly said. I swallowed, preparing myself for whatever words he was saying next.

“I want you to know that I do not want to leave, but I have to. I have to protect you, to protect our son, and protect us. So, I have to go back. I have to make sure that there is no threat against me or us. I am going back to make sure that I take care of everyone who knew about you, who was in Alex's inner circle, so that none of them can pop up again. I am going to make sure that you and Leon can finally come out from hiding and not have a target on your back.”

I nodded, absorbing his words, my heart pounding with a mix of fear and relief.

“I know that," I said. "I understand...."

"And I also want you to know that I am not just leaving you here without security. I have bought the house next door. I have bought the house opposite yours. People are going to take care of your security, watching every angle, making sure nothing suspicious happens. I made sure they have instructions they cannot refuse. I packed everything, organized their shifts. Even your neighbors, no detail is overlooked. Don’t worry, what happened before will not happen again.”

He paused, and I could feel the weight of his planning, the careful thought behind every precaution. “I also got in a teacher and a staff worker at Leon's school, just to cover our bases and make sure that everything else is okay. I am not taking chances with you again.”

I looked at him, my voice rising slightly, a mix of awe and disbelief. “Isn’t that… too much?”

He shook his head, meeting my gaze steadily. “No,” he said firmly. “It’s exactly what we need. Everything will be fine. You will be safe, and so will Leon. That’s all that matters.”
