Claimed By The Mafia Don (Ariella and Asher) novel Chapter 266

ASHER

When the flight landed back home, I was tired and a little frustrated, but I was also determined, determined to fulfill the promise I had made to Ariella and Leon. I had to work fast. I had to be diligent. I had to be careful.

On my way there, I watched the cameras at home. I just wanted to take a shower, have a few hours of sleep, wake up, and go see Luca with a new strategy. The cameras were off again. I already knew this. Dinara and Dominic, whenever they wanted to do their things, usually turned them off ever since I told them there were cameras in the house.

I didn't bother much with it. I knew they were fucking anyway.

I went into the house silently, as I always did, making sure nobody realized someone was getting in. I wasn’t looking to hear or see anything, but then I heard voices, coming from my office. At first, I thought I wasn’t hearing right. I didn't care much..... But it was my office.

Why the hell were the two of them in my office?

I knew Dominic sometimes went into my office to turn off the cameras, but it had been a while. Was he there to turn them back on? But why were both of them in there? Were they…?

Any other day, I probably would have just said, “fuck it,” and gone upstairs to my room. But something, something just called me there. I moved closer and noticed that the door was closed.

Now, my office.... I worked a lot at home and had hidden silent devices in there. In case anything happened and I needed to get rid of evidence, I could just… blow up the whole place. This was the most secure place in the house.

I put my ear against the door. I heard their voices. Low. Whispering. It wasn’t the usual chatter. Not casual, not romantic. It was deliberate, designed, almost formal, as if they were discussing something important.

But the question burned in my mind: why were they discussing it in my office?

I stayed frozen for a moment, my ear pressed against the door, listening. Every word was deliberate, measured, but still muffled. I couldn’t make out everything, but enough to know they were talking about me, about plans I hadn’t authorized, about movements I had no idea of.

I felt a surge of anger but also calculation. This wasn’t the time to explode, to confront. I needed information. I needed leverage. My mind raced, cataloging everything I knew about Dominic, about Dinara, about how they operated. Dominic wasn't an amateurs, but they weren’t me either.

I slowly shifted, crouching just slightly to keep my presence as quiet as possible. I adjusted the small earpiece they hadn’t detected. It picked up the conversation in full clarity now.

“Are you sure he won’t suspect anything?” came Dominic’s voice, low and careful.

“Of course I am. Trust me, Dominic. Don’t you trust me?”

“I trust you,” Dominic answered, but his tone was cautious, wary. “But this is Asher we are talking about. He is the Don for a reason.”

Dinara's reply was softer, almost quick, almost defensive. “Yes, I know he is the Don, but he is just the Don because he is the firstborn son. That’s the only reason he is the Don. But you, Dominic… you have true leadership in you. I’ve seen you talking to the men. You are a true leader. They look up to you. It won’t be hard for them to accept you as the new Don.”
