Chapter 38
Five Years Ago

That night, I cried until my body ached. My mind kept racing, searching for a way out. How do I stop this?
I couldn’t tell Asher. If I did, my parents would die. My father, my family-so many innocent lives were on the line. I loved my dad. I couldn’t be the reason he gets killed.
So what do I do? What do I do?
I spent the whole night searching. G****e, TikTok, Instagram-I went through everything, looking for ideas, stories, and anything that could help me. But no one had a guide on how to escape an arranged mafia marriage to your boyfriend’s father.
By the time morning came, I hadn’t slept at all. But I had an idea.
I forced myself to act normal when Asher called me. I laughed, joked, and pretended nothing was wrong. I told him about a little diner outside the city-one of my favourite places. I loved their pancakes, and the cook was the sweetest old man.
Asher was surprised I wanted to go all the way there, it was far from the city but it wasn’t anything suspicious. So after college, he picked me up, and we drove to the diner.
I tried to enjoy it, but my heart felt like it was being squeezed in. Every glance at him hurt. Every smile felt stolen.
When we finished eating, I told him I wanted to watch a movie. That was when he got suspicious.
His brows furrowed as he studied me.
“Hey… what’s wrong?”
I froze.
He reached out, brushing his thumb beneath my eye. “Your eyes are puffy.”
Damn it. I had spent an hour covering them with makeup, but Asher always noticed everything.
“Were you crying?” His voice was softer now, with concern.
I forced a smile. “I just had a fight with my mom.”*1
He frowned. “Again?”
I nodded quickly. “She made me really angry this time. Took me to a point of no return.”
“Do you want me to talk to her?” He asked hesitantly. He didn’t Want to get involved but I knew he could if I wanted him to.
“No!” I answered too fast. “No, it’s fine. It’s just a family thing. Nothing serious.”
His eyes darkened with doubt, but he didn’t push.
“You sure?”

I forced another smile. “I promise. I just want to watch a movie, okay?”
It was the first time I had ever demanded anything from him. Maybe that’s why he gave in so easily. He let out a small laugh and shook his head.
“Alright, let’s go to the movies. What my future wife wants, she gets.”
I smiled tightly But I wasn’t done yet.
After the movie, I asked him to take me to our spot. The place where he had taken me after prom. He was a little hesitant since it was getting quite late but he finally relented.
When we reached our spot, the familiar silence greeted us. Normally, we would sit on the hood, hold hands, steal kisses, and talk about our future.
But tonight wasn’t normal. My heart pounded so hard I could feel it in my throat.
Asher opened his car door, but I grabbed his wrist.
“Wait…”
He frowned but didn’t question it. Instead, he stayed, closing the door again and turning toward me. His hand found mine, fingers lacing together. I looked at our joined hands with sadness but it gave me strength.
I leaned into him, pressing my forehead to his shoulder, inhaling his scent-one last time. He took the cue and
kissed me. Soft at first. Familiar. Safe.
I kissed him back, but I wasn’t just enjoying the moment. I was pushing it. My lips moved faster, more urgent, more desperate.
Asher smiled into the kiss.
“Someone’s eager tonight.”
I swallowed, nerves tightening in my stomach. I climbed onto his lap, straddling him, my hands gripping his
shoulders.
He stilled. Clearly caught off guard. This has never happened before.
His hands came to my waist, but instead of pulling me closer, he hesitated.
“Well, this is new…” His voice was low, amused, but cautious.
I forced a flirtatious smile.
“What?”
His fingers flexed against my waist.
“What are you trying to do, Ariella?”
I didn’t answer. I just kissed him again. Harder.
For a second, he let himself get lost in our kiss, his grip tightening, his breath coming faster. But then, abruptly,

he stopped. His forehead pressed against mine, his breathing ragged.
“Ariella…” His voice was strained. “What are you doing?”
“Nothing,” I whispered. “Just kissing my boyfriend. My fiancé.”
His jaw clenched. “Yes, but not like this.”
“Are you complaining?” I challenged.
“No…” His hands trembled slightly where they rested against my waist. “But this isn’t you.”
A sharp pain stabbed through my chest. He was right, It isn’t. But it has to be.
I cupped his face, brushing my lips against his, softer this time.
“Just shut up and kiss
and kiss me, Asher.”.
Because tonight… I’m saving us both. I am fighting for my love for you, even though you don’t know it yet.
I started grinding a lot harder on him, and I have to say, feeling him beneath me was doing all kinds of things to my body. I was a mess. Was high on him, I loved kissing him, it made me relax, it made me feel sexual, it made me feel needy, and this…. grinding on him made me feel even hotter and even more needy.
I wanted everything, I usually stop myself, but tonight I was not stopping myself, I was getting everything I wanted, and I knew that he was consumed in me because his hands were now pinching facing my waist, and then they went to my butt, his hands were suddenly everywhere.
Then he was pulling me down on him, and he started, giving me upshots, grinding on me from down below through our clothes, and I found myself getting this hidden pleasure I had never felt before.
My moans got louder, and then I saw stars, I was shouting, cutting through my climax.
