ASHER
I went running with Leon and then we went to the gym. When we came back to the house, Ariella was still sleeping.
After we took a shower, we went downstairs to have breakfast and, of course, Sia was there bright and early as always and so was Maria. They both asked me about Ariella and I told them that she's fine, she's just sleeping that hangover off...... And that's when she walked inside.
"Good morning," she said cheerfully.
She looked fresh and better than she did when she woke up earlier that morning. She walked toward Leon and kissed him tightly as if she hadn't seen him in years. Said good morning to everybody and of course, kissed me.
She sat down in her place right beside me, but most of us were already finished with our breakfast by then. Leon and Sia went toward his study room to begin his lessons and Maria, of course, excused herself.
And then it was just her and me again. I was already done and I had some work to do this morning but stayed with her, mostly because I didn't want her to have breakfast alone. She was stuck with me for eternity
She picked at her food until I finally had to take control and feed her myself. I guess she was done with being fed when she touched me lightly and said,
"I want to talk to you about something."
"Okay?" I asked and answered because she kind of looked nervous.
"I want to go and see my mother." She said.
I was not expecting her to say that. Especially not so soon, so it took me a while to respond.
"I know, I know what you're thinking...... but she's still my mother." She looked away. "I am here to stay, and I was wrong..... I should go and apologise. I should have gone and seen her when I got back. She has to know about Leon. Leon has to know that he has his grandmother...... And whatever our relationship was in the past, I still....have to go and see her."
I swallowed hard. It was hard for me to tell her not to go see her mother. But I also didn't think this was the right move. Not right now.
I fully thought her mother needed a few days to process everything. She needed a moment after what happened between them too.
"You're right," I finally said. "I know you want to go and see your mother, and you're right. You're absolutely right, to want that.... But right now is not the time."
"What do you mean? I have to go and see her now." She replied immediately.
"No. Here's what I think we should do." I moved closer and took her hand in mine. "Your mother is angry after she found out you were back. Why don't you give her a few days to process everything and calm down? Then you can go and see her after she has calmed down, after she has processed everything, after you have also processed everything and are ready."
I paused.
"In fact, you know what I think we should do? I think we should go visit your father's grave. Maybe you should take some time with Leon and we could go there together as a family. We could take him flowers. You could tell him stories about his grandfather so it's not too much on you."
"He already knows about his grandfather," she said quietly. "I used to tell him a lot of stories about his grandfather and I also promised him that he was going to see his grandpa one day."
She swallowed, and I knew she was about to cry.
