Claimed By The Mafia Don (Ariella and Asher) novel Chapter 418

ASHER

"I'm sorry," I said softly as I kept pulling her along and giving her the strength she had forgotten she possessed.

She took heavy footsteps forward, and I let her walk at her own pace. I let her prolong this as much as she could. I knew she needed this. This was a heavy moment, and she had the right to deal with it as she saw fit.

When we finally arrived at the grave and she saw her father's name... She saw his headstone and her body shook as she started crying hard, painful sobs. It pained me to see her in so much pain but I also knew this was something she had to do.

As she fell down to the ground, I lessened the impact by reacting quickly, I didn't let her fall but let her break down. I held her as she cried, not even able to hold onto me herself, so I had to hold her while she fisted the ground below her. She was crying uncontrollably, crying hard and crying so painfully.

As I watched her breakdown I realised at that moment..... I knew she needed this because she had always been moving around it. She had been blinding herself to the truth by.... Not going to see her mother, not acknowledging her father's death And Not coming to visit his grave. Because in her head, she had still been living with the lie, with the fantasy that her father was still well and alive out there.

Now seeing his grave.... Being here right now and facing the evidence. This was the final nail in the coffin. She finally realised that she was never going to see him again..... He was truly gone.

I tried hard to control my emotions and push them inside because this felt like she was just now getting the news that her father was no longer here. She had never grieved, she had been sad, but she had never grieved. And this was her finally doing that.

I just... I wanted to do more. But I felt better knowing that I was here and that she wasn't alone. I got to hold her, I got to be the one to see her break down and I got to be the one she leaned on when she needed it the most.

I looked around at the guards standing on high alert, trying not to look at us or notice their Donna breaking down. I also did my best not to show my emotions or shed a tear, because seeing Ariella break down like this... It was too much. I wish I could take her pain away, I wish I could lessen it for her.
