ASHER
Luca nodded once. I stood up slowly and walked toward the window overlooking the estate.
"We can still pull Fabio in and make him spill everything the hard way." He said.
“I want Fabio comfortable,” I responded. “I want him to believe we know nothing. The second he gets nervous, he’ll either run or lead us into a dead end.”
“So we keep watching.”
“We keep watching.”
Luca was quiet for a moment before speaking again.
“And Ariella?”
That immediately pulled something tight inside my chest. I looked away from the window.
“She’s sleeping..... For now.”
“How bad was it?”
I exhaled slowly.
“She broke down.”
Luca’s expression softened slightly.
“The grave?”
I nodded once. And even now, hours later, I could still hear the sound of her crying in my head. I could still see her collapsing in front of her father’s grave, still feel her shaking in my arms. Watching her like that....It did something to me. Something ugly and violent.
Because watching Ariella suffer made me want to destroy things, destroy people And the dangerous part was that lately there were too many names on that list. Her mother, Fabio, and the Volkovs.. Anybody involved in whatever the hell was coming toward us.
“You know,” Luca said carefully, “you don’t have to carry all of this alone.”
I looked at him and almost laughed.
“This is my wife and family.”
“That’s bullshit and you know it.”
That actually pulled a small smirk out of me.
“You getting emotional on me, Luca?”
“Unfortunately.”
I shook my head lightly before walking back toward the desk.
“For now, double the guards around the house.”
“They already are.”
“I want eyes on every entrance and exit.”
“Done.”
“And Fabio?”
“We keep watching,” Luca confirmed.
I nodded once before grabbing my jacket from the chair.
“You leaving already?” he asked.
“Yes.”
“You just got here.”
“My wife is at home crying herself to sleep.”
That shut him up immediately. Because Luca understood, Ariella came first. Always. No matter what war was happening outside those walls, no matter what enemies were moving in the dark and no matter who was planning against me.
Ariella and Leon came first. Every single time.
I started walking toward the door when Luca suddenly spoke again.
“Asher.”
