ARIELLA
Bastian's eyes travelled over my face.
"You're not even that beautiful." He smiled to himself. "My sister..." His voice softened. "Dinara was an angel. Beautiful. Sweet...... And cunning."
He smiled proudly before looking back at me.
"And you...You're just a naïve, stupid woman without the looks, the charm or the brains she had. They would need ten women like you to make one of my sisters."
I lowered my eyes, and He laughed.
"And why the hell did he kill my brother?" He added.
I didn't answer. I couldn't. I couldn't even raise my head. How did he find out about that?
Bastian laughed again.
"Asher really thinks he's sneaky and the smartest man around, doesn't he?"
I didn't respond.
"He thinks he's the only one with connections. The only one with spies."Bastian shook his head. "He killed both my siblings... And for what?"
I didn't respond either. He continued either way.
"For you? To protect the secret of his son... His heir?"
Tears rolled down my cheeks as His eyes drifted toward Leon. Instinctively, I shifted closer, trying to shield my son with my body as much as I could from his piercing gaze.
"This has nothing to do with us," I whispered. "It's between the two of you. It has nothing to do with Leon, and it has nothing to do with me."
I looked past him toward Luca.
"Luca..." I called. "You know we had nothing to do with whatever is going on here. We're innocent, Leon's innocent, just let him go."
Bastian laughed again. Harder this time.
"This has everything to do with you." He snapped at me. " And it has everything to do with your son."
"I didn't even know...... I don't even know who you are. I don't even..."
He nodded. "I suppose you wouldn't."
He raised one hand toward me in an introduction for me to shake.
"My name is Sebastian Volkov. But you can call me Bastian."
A small smile spread across his face when I didn't make a move to take his hand.
"I'm the man your husband has been looking for."
I swallowed. The room suddenly felt colder.
"You..." No words came, though. I couldn't find them.
I knew what this was, who he was, the moment I heard his name. I remembered every sleepless night, every extra guard and every argument.
Every time Asher insisted it wasn't safe and every warning he had given me. His suspicion that the Volkovs were behind everything- he had been right. His suspicion that there was an insider- he had been right again.
He just never imagined... That the insider would be his best friend. His brother.
"So many people have died trying to find me," Bastian said as he crouched in front of me.
He tilted his head. "And yet..." His eyes slowly moved to Leon.
"You came to me all on your own."
Bastian laughed quietly.
"You've caused quite a bit of trouble for us."
"No," I whispered. "You don't want me."
