Chapter 82
I tiptoed towards him, hoping to catch him by surprise and hug him from behind. But he wasn’t on alert. He didn’t resist. He didn’t even flinch. It was as though he had expected me all along. I slipped my arms around him and rested my head against his back, swaying him gently. I could feel his smile as he tilted his head slightly to touch my forehead.
Then he turned around slowly, taking my arms in his hands, and bringing them to his lips. He kissed them softly, then kissed my forehead, and finally wrapped me into his embrace, holding me against his
chest.
“I know you’re upset the day is over,” he said, his voice warm and soft above me, “but this is just one of the many days we’re going to be spending together. Because once I marry you, you won’t have to ask for anybody’s permission. You’ll be mine, and I’ll be yours-in every sense of the word. And we’ll get to have this time, just the two of us, every day.”
He tipped my head up gently so I could look into his eyes, so he could see my face.
“So let’s take today,” he whispered, “as a little movie trailer of what our life is going to be.”
He dropped down, pressing a soft kiss on my lips-tender, slow, and sweet-before turning back to my bag and starting to zip it closed.
“Come on, let’s go,” he said with a faint smile. “I don’t want you to go back home late.”
I swallowed hard, guilt tightening in my chest. I didn’t want this moment to end. I didn’t want to let go of him yet. So, on impulse, I raised myself up on my toes and leaned in, trying to kiss him again.
He ducked away with a laugh, evading me playfully. “We’ve kissed a lot today.”
“Yes,” I said, pouting a little, “but I still want to kiss you.”
“I don’t know if I can do it,” he said, shaking his head as if trying to gather his strength. “It’s been a struggle the whole day-since I already know how you feel, how you taste… Getting away from kissing you is the hardest thing I had to do today.”
He grinned. “I should be awarded for my restraint.”
That made me giggle, the sound bubbling out of me before I could stop it. “Well, then you have the award,” I told him softly, my voice full of love
He laughed, the sound warm but laced with hesitation. “And what’s it going to be?”
“Me,” I whispered. “You get to have me. All of me.”
He shook his head, the conflict still visible in his eyes. He was still holding back.
“Come on, let’s go,” he urged.
“No,” I said firmly, stepping closer. “Not until you give me what I want.”

My hands moved to his chest, caressing him gently, then trailed up to his neck. I felt the shift in his body, the change in his breath, the quiet storm he was trying to contain.
“What do you want, Ariella?” he asked, his voice barely holding together.
“I want you to make love to me,” I said, my voice low, trembling. “Like this is the last night you’ll ever be able to.”
He inhaled deeply, tortured and torn. “Don’t do this to me. You know I want you.”
“And I want you back,” I said. “What’s stopping you? It’s not like we haven’t done it before.”
His jaw clenched. I could see the fight inside him, the resistance crumbling. Then, with a growl of surrender, he said,
“Fuck it.”
And just like that, he pulled me into him, his mouth crashing against mine. He kissed me with everything -heat, anger, hunger, desperation-pouring his emotions into every movement. And I kissed him back, even hotter, even deeper.
Because I knew. I knew I would never get to see him like this again.
When he finds out I’m marrying his father, he’ll probably hate me.
No. He will hate me. He won’t talk to me again.
This was the last time I’d see him want me. The last time he’d look at me like that-with love, with need, with fire. This was the last time I’d get to feel him, to have him, to hold onto this illusion.
And maybe I’m selfish. Maybe I’m a terrible person.
But I was going to make sure I enjoyed every second of it.
He cupped the back of my head and backed me into the window.
“You want me to make love to you?”
The desire in his eyes, in his voice, scorched me with its intensity. My mouth became dry.
“Yes.”
He bent down and kissed me. His mouth, his tongue, they demanded my surrender like the rest of him. He wanted control and I gave in, let the kiss consume me until he dragged his mouth away, panting.
“You drive me crazy.”
I was dazed and couldn’t follow his words. His mouth pulled into a knowing smile. Asher saying that word was incredibly sexy. He lifted me into his arms and carried me over to the bed, where he laid me down carefully then followed suit, his strong body pressing me into the mattress.
He kept kissing me with silent urgency as his hands shoved down my panties. My dress was next. He
