“We thought you were dead. That… that asshole Alpha said you died. He came back spitting shit about you being gone and…”
“He’s my father. Show respect.” I cut in quietly. Marlik froze, staring at me like he’d seen a ghost, and I sighed. “He adopted me instead of killing me. Then he returned to Downside saying I was dead.”
“You knew?” he asked, stunned. “You knew he came back saying you were dead? And you stayed there? Really?”
“No.”
“Don’t fuck with me, Jahan. Tell me the plain truth this second.” His voice snapped hard, that old temper and foul mouth still sharp. I swallowed. He hadn’t changed.
I dropped my gaze and walked away, settling into the chair, already exhausted from emotions and pain clawing at me.
“I met Mom. She told me everything.”
At that, Marlik slowly moved to sit across from me, chained hands resting on the table, eyes wide with disbelief.
“You met Mom?”
“In deep shit, Marlik. Ugly shit. We fucking failed her as sons.” My voice was tired, heavy. “Growing up with the Godlike family was insane. I was a rogue from Downside, filth to them. At first, I tried running, but I didn’t know the roads. It’s a city here, nothing like where we grew up. I couldn’t read. I was lost. For three years, survival was all I had.”
“Alpha Ruis adopted me, changed my name, put me in school, trained me. All in shooting, combat, even seduction. It’s a weapon now, and works. After three years, I could finally stand on my own, and with permission, I went back to town. But it was gone. Converted into a highway. I nearly lost my mind.”
I raked my fingers through my hair, breathing out.
“I never stopped searching, Marlik. Not for a second. Then eighteen years passed, and on a forced business trip, I met Mom. A maid. Enduring hell.”
Marlik dropped his gaze to his hands, burden landing on him at last.

“Your death… the news broke something in me. never recovered. Clubs were the only thing that made me forget I lost a brother. I drowned in them. Messed around. Until Rasha introduced me to Feroz.”
I watched him.
“Rasha?”
“My fuck buddy. She worked at a strip club. Ex–porn star. We hooked up there and she was sweet. She gave me a taste of crystal, fine shit. I got addicted. She had a boss, Feroz. After she introduced us… I became his.”
I nodded slowly, the pieces falling into place.
“Mom said you got busted one day. Right?”
He shrugged.
“That’s the story I gave her. It was Rasha who got caught. I was stupid in love, if that’s what to call it. So I took the fall. Feroz begged too, promised Mom and Yasmin would be cared for. I got sentenced to four years.”
“My first week in, she bribed her way inside, got me high, blew my brains out, made me float. I kept believing four years would fly by. But it became my longest sentence. Turns out Rasha was Feroz’s whore. I was just the scapegoat. Used”
“Mom tried, Jahan. When they let her visit. Yasmin was growing. Mom was working, barely earning enough to send Yasmin to art school. Their promise to take care of them? Lies. But I wasn’t even angry. I accepted it like repayment for being foolish.”
“What happened after four years?” I asked quietly. “Mom said you were asked to sign something and it turned out to be a murder confession.”
Marlik leaned back, shoulders sagging.
“Not being able to read… it’s one of the worst curses rogues from Downside carry. After four years, I was ready to turn new leaf. Check my records, they called me the best behaved inmate.” His voice cracked. “The week I was supposed to be released, Rasha came again.”
I stiffened, meeting his gaze. He shook his head, then asked something I didn’t expect.
“You ever want just one woman?”
The question blanked my mind.
“We’ve fucked so many pieces that they all start asting the same. But then you thrust into one, and it’s just… different. You want only her. Again and again. For yourself alone. You ever

I had to pause. Because he was right. One look, one kiss, and every other woman becomes irrelevant. Just her. Snow.
“Rasha came bruised and crying,” he continued. Begging me to save her from Feroz, saying he’d sell her off if I didn’t help. How could I? She handed me papers, words I couldn’t read. All I did was thumbprint it. She said it was a marriage certificate. Us. I was thrilled. Ready to be her man, to make her proud.”
“Then one night, cops came. Dragged me to court. Prosecutor asked one question, if I thumbprinted those papers. I said yes. Rasha stood at the witness box and call me the culprit, sealing my fate. Judge sentenced me to life.”
“I was brought here. Mom visited once. Never again.”
“It was Feroz who sent his message later, he said I should keep my mouth shut, don’t try reopening the case, and my family would survive. They sent me fine dust every day to stay high, numb. Days blurred. Years vanished. I lost track.”
“Until now. Seeing you like this, grown. How old are you? Man, You look good. Fine as fuck.”
I smiled, something sad flickering beneath it. We’d all aged, but the bond we had, still thick, still unbroken. Maybe enough to fight through all of this.
