“You will be suing the prosecutor who sentenced you. Marlik.” I said, finality sharpening every word. He paused, staring at me like I’d just spoken madness. “You will create a scene so loud and undeniable that the case will be reopened immediately. You’ll go to court and you’ll
walk out a free man.”
“You’re insane. Feroz will be furious.”
“You think I wasn’t furious?” I snapped. “You’re right. I am crazy. My brother rotting in prison, our mother sold into mafia territory, and our sister turned into a slut before she was even grown, why wouldn’t I be crazy?”
Marlik’s face drained. He heard me, but I could tell he didn’t want to believe it.
“Who…. who is a slut?” he stuttered. “Jahan… who are you talking about?”
“Yasmin,” I answered heavily. “Mom told me she was taken from her the last time you saw her. How old was she then? Barely a teenager. Do you have any idea what those people did to her?”
“Jahan…”
“Mother was raped, Marlik,” I choked out. “I was there when the bastard try to forced her onto her knees. Like trash.”
He was breathing hard now, stunned, horrified.
“You let him live?”
“And would you believe me if I said yes?” I shot back, nearly shaking. I exhaled, forcing myself calm, then my cellphone buzzed. Desmond texted.
Yasmin brought home. Gafi gang waiting.
Relief hit me hard. I was about to reply when I heard the sound, Marlik’s sob. Everything inside me froze; my blood vanished.
I pocketed my phone, turning away to give him moment.
“Fuck. Fuck. Fuck!!” he cursed, again and again, oice raw.
When the wave passed, he reached for my hand. I was barely holding myself together when I looked at him, and he searched my eyes, nodding.

“You know what you can do? Get me out illegally One day. So I can kill Feroz myself.”
“Marlik…”
“Just answer!” he snapped, desperate. I gripped his wrists, forcing sense into him.
“The deed is done, Marlik. It isn’t your fault you loved the wrong person. In the criminal world, shit happens. What matters now is fixing it and putting our family back together. The best way is legal and you will get that chance.”
He didn’t want to hear it, tears streaking down his face as he slumped back.
“Yasmin was… goodness, wasn’t she thirteen then? Still a child… and Mom, she’s just been fighting to keep us alive and… damn.”
He bowed his head, breathing, letting the truth settle. Finally, he lifted his gaze, eyes wet.
“Tell me what to do. Anything, Jahan. You were the brains when we were kids. I didn’t follow your plan once and I paid for it. Tell me what to do.”
“I’ll study your case. Every detail. I’ll tell you tomorrow.”
“You’ll come here?”
“No. Sir Jack, you know him?”
“The chief warden? He treated me like dirt.”
I sighed, squeezing his hands.
“He’ll treat you differently now. I fed him more than enough cash.”
He sniffed, shaking his head.
“I don’t know what to do, Jahan. Yasmin ruined.. Mom broken…”
“I have them with me,” I cut in. His head snapped up.
“Lie.”
I pulled my phone and video–called Desmond. He answered immediately.
“Boss?”
“How’s Yasmin?”
“She was violent, thrashing everywhere, so we sedated her.”

Marlik rushed closer as the camera shifted, Yasmin lying on a bed, hair long, face too young for the scars life carved into her.,
“It’s her,” he breathed. “That’s her.”
“How’s Mother?” I asked Desmond.
“She’s awake. Should I give her the phone?”
Marlik recoiled, guilt eating him alive. I read the air instantly.
“Tell her I’ll be there soon.” I hung up and turned back to him.
“The fact you have Mom and Yasmin… that alone gives me peace,” he whispered. “Even if I die today, I’d die smiling.”
“And you’ll let the people who did this walk free” I asked. He froze, swallowing. I shook my

“But… but Feroz is dangerous,” he murmured. “I saw him once. The fear, his presence was dark.”
“I doubt you’d fear him now,” I said quietly. “He won’t even know what hit him. We’ll do it smartly, quietly, almost politely. All you have to do is follow my lead.”
He held my gaze, then nodded.
“When do we start?”
I checked the time.
“Tomorrow, the news breaks. In two days, maybe the weekend, you’ll walk out.”
“Lie,” he muttered, like always, his way of asking for proof. I leaned back, studying him. Still surreal we were here at all.
“Sir Jack will provide a new cell. You’ll shave. Under this mess is a dangerously handsome man and we’ll bring him back. Your drug record will not stay and that sentence is done. This one was never yours, and we’ll prove it. Leave Mom and Yasmin to me. I’ll keep them safe until
you come.”
He didn’t interrupt, didn’t look away, not until Iinished. Then everything broke.
“I love you, Jahan,” he scoffed at himself. “It’s fucking weird to say, but it’s true. You’re my brother. Always have been. But I’m a convict now. Won’t I stain you?”

“Nonsense,” I said, eyes dropping. “Once a rogue always a rogue. We crawled out of Downside together, and we remain brothers.”

“You’ll protect Mom and Yasmin, right?” he asked, needing to hear it again. I nodded, another Vow sealed.
“And we’ll destroy Feroz… completely.”
“That,” he said, voice iron, “I’ll make sure of before I die.”
