That was all that came to mind when Cupid eased into the garage and the massive tunnel gate slid shut behind us. We both stepped out, and he grabbed the groceries from the backseat.
Inside the elevator, he stood behind me, silent the whole ride up. When the doors opened and his living room appeared, I stepped out first and he followed, heading to the kitchen without a word.
“I’ll set everything up,” he said.
I nodded.
“I’ll take my bath.”
He didn’t respond, just kept arranging the groceries with that quiet efficiency, knowing exactly where each thing belonged. I watched him for a moment before turning away and going upstairs.
In his bedroom, my gaze fell instantly on the picture frame beside his bed. Him and Marlik. A soft sigh escaped me.
Cupid… he had been truly angry at Marlik. My goodness. I’d never seen him that furious before. So lethal. The words he spat… oh no.
I lowered my eyes, walked into the bathroom, and stripped before slipping into the bathtub. I lay there, stalling, hoping he’d come in and touch me.
A few seconds later, my wish came half true. He walked in for a quick shower. I watched him step under the water, turning only one tap, letting it cascade over him. He acted like I wasn’t even there, and if I didn’t know he was mad at me, I would’ve assumed I’d
gone invisible.
“Cupid?” The word slipped out before I could stop it. He paused and glanced my way. “Can I… join you under the shower?”
He nodded.
“Yeah. I’m done.”
Then he grabbed a towel and left the bathroom without another glance. My shoulders sagged.

Chapter 143
He was such a difficult man to please.

I bathed quickly, then went into the closet, choosing one of his shirts. He was there too, wearing only shorts. I slipped the shirt on, the sleeves swallowed my hands. Gently, I looked at him.
“Cupid, can you help me fold the sleeves, please?”
He nodded and walked over. I stood still, hoping he’d notice the cleavage I’d left deliberately exposed, the same breasts he loved so much, but as soon as he fixed the sleeves, he bypassed me and walked out.
I stared after him, stunned and frustrated. His silence was an ache.

I plated dinner, letting the aroma fill the night. After pouring him a glass of water, I wiped my hands and walked to the stairs. He was in the living room, scrolling through his phone.
“Cupid, dinner is ready,” I called.
He glanced up and nodded.
I adjusted the shirt again, making sure I looked… appealing. A moment later, I heard his footsteps.
He entered the kitchen, walked up to the dining table, and sat across from me.
“Thank you,” he said softly before picking up the fork. I watched him taste the first bite, and it struck me that this felt like the first time I had actually seen him eat.
“What’s your favorite dish, Cupid?” I asked gently.
“You.”
Heat shot up my cheeks. I looked down quickly, trying not to soak the seat just from that.
“Serious. Food,” I tried again.
He suddenly paused, making me lift my gaze in concern. Slowly, he looked at me.
“You don’t mind if I use my hand?”
The request confused me for a second before I understood this was comfort for him. Familiarity.

“Yes,” I said softly.

He went over to rinse his hands and return to resumed eating with his hand, and quietly, contentedly, I watched.
“You cook well,” he said. I nearly beamed. “As the Frost only daughter, I expected someone like… a spoilt brat. But instead I found this… you.”
I flushed with pride.
“Well, you’re looking at the chef in the Frost house,” I replied. “Growing up was fun. I did the dishes, the chores. We never had maids. After I got married, my brothers‘ women took over. But now that I’m back, I’m slowly taking over again.”
He nodded, listening. His gaze
softened.
“Your brothers, the Frosts… what are they like to you?”
“Great,” I said honestly. “Roc is the eldest. A judge. He doesn’t interact much, but when he does, it’s powerful. He’s strict. Very.
Eshan and Kashi are twins. Eshan’s a prosecutor, ridiculously protective, very hard on me. Kashi’s a lawyer. He’s the softest, pampers me too much, but somehow he’s the one I fear the
most.
Their women are amazing. Sera, Roc’s fiancée, is like a mother figure. I can tell her anything. Mirena is blunt but extremely helpful. She’s risked her father’s company for us so many times. And Pinky… she’s the sweetest. Always busy, hardly around, but she brings peace whenever she comes.”
He didn’t interrupt. Just listened.
At the end, he nodded again, sighed, and continued eating.
“I didn’t look up the Godlikes‘ children,” I said after a moment. “Is Mr. Yenda your only sibling?”
He slowed but shook his head.
“Oh, you have another brother?”
He looked at me like I had said something ridiculous.
“Having two of Yenda will put my father in debt. That man is a crazy–ass motherfucker.” I blinked at the cuss word. He paused and sighed. “Sorry.”

“It’s fine,” I smiled. “I heard you use it with Marlik.”
At that name, Marlik, he went still. Then he nodded.
“We’re vulgar in Downside Rogue Town,” he said. “Cuss words are normal.”
I laughed.
“But you recovered.”
“My father enrolled me in the best schools. Perfect. Hired the best tutors. I grew up
“So… do you have sisters?”
He didn’t stop eating as he nodded.
“Two elder sisters and one younger sister. Almira. She’s the love of my life.”
He said it simply, casually but the words hit me.
Painful. Sharp.
Jealousy bit me instantly.
Why?
Why does it sting?
She’s only his sister.
And yet…
It hurt.
