“So none of you knows who aired the news and video footage of exactly how Rasha died during interrogation?”
No one spoke. No response came to Mr. Sonny’s question, and I could tell everyone was already exhausted. The public was supposed to turn on H.O.W.L management for their carelessness in allowing a suspect to die during interrogation, but the news of Marlik Rogue’s release overshadowed everything. It saved us.
“Fine. We escaped this narrowly,” Mr. Sonny said. “The walls will be more fortified, and we’ll return to this later. For now, everyone should take a break and enjoy the Thanksgiving coming up.”
A collective sigh of relief followed. I leaned against the wall, drained, barely able to wait to get home.
“We’ll send an official message if anything comes up,” Mr. Sonny added. His gaze swept the room before settling on Wrinks. “I still can’t believe Dana left us so soon. I apologize for the tragedy, and I hope you all stay safe. Enjoy your Thanksgiving. Fill it with laughter.”
Pleasantries were exchanged, and slowly everyone began to file out. I turned toward the hall as well when Quince fell into step beside me.
“Hey,” he said, smiling. “I know no one will say it, but I will.”
I slowed and glanced at him, curious.
“This case… you solved more than half of it. You did. But Mr. Gerald won’t say it because he’s arrogant.”
I looked at him as he spoke. His quiet regard, that calm handsomeness. I smiled in appreciation and continued walking.
“You didn’t bring your car,” he added. “Want me to drop you off?”
I shook my head.
“I’ll call my brother to pick me up.”
We reached the elevator. Quince pressed the button. We waited in silence until a sharp voice cut through the hallway.

“What the hell are you talking about, Marcus?!”
“Don’t give me that look, Sera. You know I’m right.”

I frowned. That voice… it was my sister–in–law. Slowly, I stepped away from the elevator and moved toward the balcony where it’s all coming from.
Seraphine stood there with Marcus, her assistant from forensics. He was gripping her wrist. almost pinning her against the wall. I didn’t like the position at all. If Roc saw this, he’d lose his mind.
“I’m engaged, Marcus. You know who my man is.”
“So because he’s a Frost, you’ll deny what we are? Really?”
Cold rushed through me.
Before they could say more, the elevator chimed open, snapping them back to reality. Sera turned and froze when she saw me. She yanked her wrist free and adjusted herself quickly.
“Snow…”
I couldn’t speak. My throat tightened. I swallowed and turned back toward the elevator. Quince, who had witnessed everything, followed me in silence.
The elevator door was about to slide closed when Sera rushed in too.
He pressed the button for the lowest floor. The doors slid shut. The ride down was tense, oppressively awkward.
When the doors opened, we stepped out. Quince paused and smiled at me.
“Enjoy the holiday. The next case might be bloody.”
I nodded.
“Be safe.”
He walked away, disappearing from view.
Only then did I turn to Seraphine. She stood there, visibly panicked. I sighed and small smile. Maybe there was more to this than what I’d seen.

“I should give you a ride home,” she said, taking my hand. “I’m visiting too.”

My smile widened, but before I could answer, the elevator doors opened again. Marcus stepped out and stopped a few feet away.
“Sera, let’s talk,” he said firmly.
She looked at me for a long moment, then nodded.
“I’ll be late, Snow. Be safe.”
She walked away. Marcus followed and I stood to watch them both disappear from my sight.
Seraphine Castle.
When it comes to love, real affection, deep romance, I’d point to Roc and Seraphine without hesitation. Of my three human brothers, Roc was the most tender. He loved loudly, openly.
I still remembered the day she agreed to be his girlfriend. Roc had come home from that date stunned, unable to believe Seraphine Castle, the only daughter of an Alpha, was his woman. I was younger then. We partied all night.
After six years of courting, he proposed. She said yes. Families met. Celebrations followed. The press aired the news.
Roc adored her. Unlike Eshan, jealous and controlling, Roc was calm, gentle, quiet. Unlike Kashi, the master manipulator, Roc was sweet. But when things went wrong, forgiveness became impossible.
When Seraphine crossed him, he cut her off entirely. It was usually cold, silent, devastating. I’d seen her crawl back more than once begging for his attention.
And I know this… whatever this was… it wouldn’t sit well with Roc.
I stepped out of H.O.W.L and sighed at the cloudy sky. If I hadn’t checked the time, I’d think it was already night.
I pulled out my phone to call Kashi, but before the call went through, another popped up.
Mom.
She never called. The last time she did, it was to remind me what a disappointment I was.
I swallowed and answered carefully.
“Hello?”

“Ah. Thank the Moon Goddess you still remember you have one. Viviana is coming home tonight. Don’t cause a nuisance. Return to your real home.”
She disconnected almost immediately as if she haven’t just titled the whole universe with her information.
I stood frozen. Viviana… coming home? Four years… just gone like that.
Dizziness washed over me. I bit my lip and stepped to the roadside, flagging a taxi. One stopped, and I climbed into the back seat with a sigh.
The car moved.
Then it hit me after a few minutes.
I was supposed to call my brother.
I frowned, heart racing.
“Excuse me, you should pull over. I’d like to get out.”
No response. Instead, The car sped up.
My fingers trembled.
“Hello?”
Still nothing.
In quite haste I dialed Kashi. The call connected, his voice came through, but the driver saw me in the mirror and snarled. He reached back, yanking the phone from my hand.
I tried to resist but He punched me hard.
Pain exploded in my jaw. Everything blurred. The world tilted, and then went black.
