My wrist felt numb, my head splitting with pain. I sighed shakily as consciousness drifted back, fluttering my eyes open only to see the room tilt. I blinked, tried again, and a cold chill sank straight into my bones.
For a heart–stopping second, I didn’t know where I was.
The room was dimly lit. Empty. And I was strapped to a wooden chair.
Slowly, carefully, I lowered my gaze to my wrists. Purple bruises bloomed where the straps cut into my skin. Tight. Painful. My breathing hitched as I waited, forcing myself to breathe, to remember, to listen.
It came back all at once.
I had left H.O.W.L. I had entered the wrong car.
My goodness.
My head snapped up as panic surged. I began to writhe, pulling desperately at the straps, a chuckle sounded outside the room, followed by approaching footsteps.
when
“Are you sure we got the right person?” a voice slurred. The heavy stench of alcohol and sweat drifted in.
“Yeah. She’s the one. She fitted the description we were given,” another replied. “Didn’t you see the picture we were sent, dumbass?”
The door handle turned.
I stilled instantly, forcing my body limp, breath shallow and eyelids drop in pretense. The door creaked open, letting in a rush of cold air and the sound of rain pounding hard outside.
Where am I?
I could tell there are only two of them there, and I could feel eyes on me. Hungry. Assessing. One of them stepped closer. I stiffened, eyelids still shut.
“She’s beautiful,” he murmured.
Cold fingers grazed my cheek.

I fought the urge to flinch, to scream. Disgust rolled through me. No man had touched me like this. No one except my brothers, Ares when I was still deluded enough to love him, and Cupid.
This felt wrong. Violating.
“You hit her too hard,” the man said. “She’s got a cut on her lip.”
“She tried to fight,” another voice replied with a groan. “Had to do something.”
Fingers slid through my hair, tucked strands behind my neck, then drifted down to my mouth. A soft, sick sound left his throat.
“By the gods… she’s stunning,” he said. “Let’s get the job done real quick.”
My breathing betrayed me, growing heavier.
“Not bad,” the second man agreed. “I’ll
go
first.”
“Greedy bastard,” the first muttered.
Then I heard it.
The sound of a belt unbuckling.
That sound, It dragged buried memories screaming to the surface.
No.
If I didn’t act now, I would be violated again. And this wasn’t years ago. I was older. Stronger. And there was only one man I would ever allow to touch me again.
Cupid.
The instant hands grabbed at my clothes, I kicked out with everything in me. The blow landed hard, unexpected. He staggered back. The chair toppled, splintering as it hit the floor.
The straps snapped free.
They froze in shock, but I didn’t wait.
I bolted.
Rain slammed into me as I burst outside. No houses. Nothing. We were deep near a highway shed, rain pouring so hard it blurred everything.

“Get back here!” someone shouted.
Panic exploded in my veins.
:
In the garage, I saw it. The taxi. The same one that had taken me.

I ran, yanked the door open, and thank the moon goddess, the keys were still in the ignition.
I turned it, slammed into reverse, metal screeching as I tore away blindly, not caring what I hit. Tires skidded. The car lurched forward, crashing onto the highway.
I didn’t stop.
My heart hammered in my throat. I glanced into the rearview mirror to see nothing. No headlights. When I looked up at the visor, I saw my bag on the backseat.
I reached for it with shaking hands and dialed Roc.
He answered immediately.
“Snow?” His voice was urgent. “Snow, my God, where are you?”
“I…I don’t know,” I gasped. “Some highway shed… it was raining… I escaped.”
Movement burst on the other end. Then Eshan’s voice cut in.
“Keep the call open. We’ll trace it. Just keep driving. Stay calm.”
I nodded, even though they couldn’t see me.
“Okay.”
I heard Eshan making calls. Voices overlapping. Sirens somewhere distant.
I kept driving, no direction, just forward with heart pounding as I wondered what would have happened if I hadn’t fought back.
Another rape?
If that had happened… I wouldn’t have been able to stand before Cupid Godlike ever again. I would feel filthy. Broken beyond repair.
I shook my head, trying to focus, but then another truth hit me.
Viviana.

She was coming back.

My chest tightened at the fact, the reality. I would have to face her knowing what she had done
to me, without being able to scream, to strike back, to make her pay.
The weight of it pressed down on me, crushing.
My vision blurred. My hands trembled on the wheel.
I slowed unconsciously, the world slipping away, and the last thing I heard was Kashi’s voice calling my name in panic before everything went dark.
