I was smoking the last cigarette in the pack when Desmond finally pulled the car into the Godlike Pack compound that late night. I sat still as he turned off the engine and glanced at me briefly.
I hadn’t spoken a word throughout the entire journey. Instead, I had tried to find some shred of peace in the heavy silence, clinging to the reality that she was safe now, but the more I dwelled on it, the deeper the hollow ache inside me grew.
I set my jaw tightly and forced my mind to empty itself of her. I alighted silently from the car and headed inside the main house, Desmond following close behind me without delay.
He could always tell when I wasn’t feeling good, and at times like this, my cousin tended to become overly protective and far too concerned.
I made my way through the dimly lit hall and finally stepped into the living room. Everyone was almost in the exact same positions I had left them in hours ago. The only differences were that Almira was no longer there, and neither was my grandmother.
I already knew that Yenda and my other siblings wouldn’t dare lift a finger or make a move until the entire situation had been fully cleared and resolved.
I walked further into the room and gave a low, respectful bow to my father. He waited patiently, his sharp eyes fixed steadily on me, ready to hear my report.
“The charges have been dropped. Almira is safe now,” I said quietly, and I saw the flicker of raw emotion cross his face before it vanished, his jaw setting firmly.
gaze shifted I knew exactly how much Almira meant to Alpha Ruis. He nodded once, and his to the document laying on the table in front of him. Beside it, a pen waited patiently.
“Go on, son, and sign it,” he said and I approached the table to examine what the papers contained. “It will be a lot of work from now on, but you have to do it as a Godlike. You will be the secondary guardian of Almira if anything ever happens to me or her mother. You will also manage all finances in the Godlike Legal Empire.”
A cold chill ran down my spine at those words, my eyes fixed on the papers in overwhelming awe. It was enormous–far bigger than anything I could ever put into words. Being named the guardian of Almira alone carried immense weight. It meant I would control all her assets and hold parental rights if her real parents were no longer able to. And on top of that, handling the finances of the entire legal business? My goodness.

“Father…” Yenda began to protest, but his voice trailed off completely when my father lifted his gaze to meet his. One single stare, and Yenda fell utterly silent.
“Father, this is too much,” Lindy murmured shakily. “This man here is dangerous. You know what he is capable of. Why would you leave my younger sister in his care?”
“We all know what Yenda did was unforgivable,” Catherine added, her voice tight, “but handing over the authority of the family wealth and Almira to a Rogue is completely uncalled for.”
“Really?” my father asked quietly, his eyes moving slowly around the room before he nodded, his jaw setting even harder. “So who exactly should I hand everything over to? Obviously not Yenda, because he is a good–for–nothing son. All my life I raised him to one day sit on the Godlike throne, to control the people and lead them. What did he bring back from that responsibility? Gambling debts and disgrace. Or should I hand it all to you, Catherine? You, who couldn’t even properly stand on her own two feet?”
“Dad…”
“If it wasn’t for Cupid, none of you would even be standing here right now all glowing in luxury. The sooner we all start recognizing his sacrifices and hard work, the more peaceful and better everything will be. He will handle the finances of both the legal and illegal businesses, and he becomes my baby girl’s guardian. Son, go on and sign the papers. We will finalize everything at the company tomorrow morning.”
No one else in the room had the nerve to protest anymore. I picked up the pen and hovered over the signature line for a long, heavy moment before finally scribbling my name, sealing my fate with that single stroke.
I swallowed hard, turning back to my father to nod in silent acknowledgment.
“You should check on Almira. She won’t open her door for anyone,” he said softly. I nodded again and headed toward the doorway, but just as I reached it, his voice came quietly from behind me. “Thanks.”
I paused, turned back to him, and saw him nod once more.
“Thank you.”
I returned the nod and walked out, moving through the quiet hallway. With a soft sigh, I arrived at the private wing where Almira Godlike lived. Her section of the pack house was treasured and pampered beyond measure.
She had maids at her beck and call, always ready, but when I arrived in her hall, I found them all waiting anxiously outside her door.

They bowed deeply and in unison the moment I appeared. Without a word, I walked straight to her bedroom door and knocked gently.
No response came at first. It was the heavy silence from inside that made me set my jaw tighter. She would know I was here. She could always recognize my scent.
I knocked again, but when there was still no answer, I let out a soft sigh and turned to walk away. Then the door opened with a small, hesitant crack that made me freeze.
Gently, I turned back and stepped inside quietly. Her bedroom was as jaw–droopingly beautiful and perfectly befitting a young lady as elegant as she was.
She was curled up on her bed, knees drawn tightly to her chin, looking small and fragile.
Tenderly, I sat on the edge of the bed and searched her eyes. Tear stains marked her cheeks, and it pained me deeply to see her so torn apart.
Tenderly, I pulled her into my embrace, pressing a soft kiss to her hair. She melted against me immediately, gripping me harder as her body shook with fresh sobs.
“You are safe now,” I whispered softly to her. “No one is going to harm you while I’m alive.”
It was a vow. A sacred promise I would keep at any cost. Time passed slowly as she gradually calmed down. Quietly, she pulled back just enough to look up at me, sniffing.
“You… you didn’t kill

Yes, she knew what I did commit murders time to time. She had seen enough over the years to understand that the mafia world existed.
She knew how the Godlikes had built their wealth, and I could bet every ounce of my being that she hated all of it.
“I didn’t,” I said softly, my thumb gently dabbing away the fresh tears on her cheeks. Her eyes stared back into mine, searching, I could tell she didn’t fully believe me, and I sighed. “I can give you footage of it.”
She waited, watching me, and I glanced down at my wrist to remove my watch, but then I paused. My wrist was empty. My wristwatch wasn’t there.
“I must have lost it,” I murmured. “I’ll get Desmond to track it for me. You should go to sleep
now.”
I started to rise from the bed, but she reached out and pulled me back, hugging me even

I sighed deeply, rubbing slow circles on her back to comfort her. After a moment, I pulled back just enough to nod.
“I’ll take a quick bath at Desmond’s and come right back.” I stood and headed out, my mind still turning over where my wristwatch could possibly have been lost.
