I slept off peacefully, and this wasn’t even about the usual deep sleep that the moon night pulls over me. The one that happens to Alphas but, weirdly enough, happens to me too.
This was about her. Almira. Being safe with her, holding her close, feeling that quiet, protective love wrap around us both.
I woke up that morning to see her still deep in slumber, her long hair falling softly over her face. I had passed the night in her bedroom, stretched out on the couch.
For a while, I only looked at her. That pure, breathtaking beauty, and then I quietly got off the couch.
Today, Dad had mentioned we would finish the contract and complete the handover at the company, and I could already feel it was going to be a big, momentous day.
I made my way out of Almira’s bedroom quietly, heading toward Desmond’s, when I slowed down at the large window that overlooked the pack grounds.
There, I saw my grandma heading toward her own abode, a woven basket in her hand. Raking my fingers through my hair, I walked out into the open to meet her.
I took the basket from her gently, and we walked together in comfortable silence. She didn’t speak at first. Instead, when we arrived at her place, she opened the door, and I headed straight into her kitchen to place the basket on the table.
“Good morning, Grandma,” I murmured at last, but she ignored me initially.
She removed the cover cloth over the basket to reveal fresh fruits, and she began to set them up neatly while I watched her from behind.
“Tea?” she asked at last, throwing the question over her shoulder.
“No.”
To that, she turned around fully, and I met her gaze silently. I could feel she was mad at me. Not everyone had been happy with me lately. I hadn’t shown my face around as often as I used
“I haven’t brushed,” I murmured, and she sighed deeply.

“You can’t eat or drink anything without brushing, but you can kiss another’s lips, can’t you?” she stated almost accusingly, and I nearly rolled my eyes.
Here we go.
“I thought you said the last time you were here that there was something you wanted to discuss with me. Perhaps you believe me pushing you to get married is crazy and the rambling of a mad woman.”
“Grandma!” I protested in awe, and she stopped arranging things to look at me fully once again.
“You give me no choice, grandson,” she stated tightly. “Yenda is up to no good. You saw for yourself last night what he’s slowly becoming. He isn’t capable of giving me a great–grandson, but you…”
She made her way to sit at the table, and I stared into her lovely, wise eyes.
“Cupid, you can, and you are not getting any younger. You need a woman, a wife by your side. You won’t serve Ruis forever, will you?” To that, I sighed, lowering my gaze. “Last time you were here… I’d swear you sounded like a man who had met a lady.”
Those words sank deep into my heart, and I stood there for what felt like an eternity before walking over to settle on the chair across from her, my heart sinking to the very bottom at the thought of it all.
Since last night, I had forced myself not to think about it, and I had succeeded, until now. Snow.
“I met her,” I said softly, meeting my grandma’s gaze, and I’d swear I had never seen anyone look so eager. “That lady who owns the ring from that snowy night.”
She paused, waited briefly to gather her thoughts, to be sure she had heard right, that this might be coincidence or fate.
“The lady who gave you her ring and walked away?” she asked, and I nodded. “The very one I asked you to return the ring to?”
Again, I nodded, swallowing hard.
“I met her and… and… goodness… she’s beautiful. You should have seen her. She’s… everything
sensible man would want in a woman.”

“Cupid…” she called softly, her hand reaching across to take mine on the table, and I paused to think it through.

“We made love,” I told her quietly. “Many times, and… and I want more. She wants more too…”
“Then you should tell her. Why haven’t you informed your father about this?” she asked eagerly, unable to stop herself. “Wedding preparations were supposed to be going on and…”
“I can’t,” I interrupted quietly, and at once her hand on mine went cold. Slowly, I looked into her eyes and sighed, leaning back in the chair in frustration. I shook my head. “I can’t marry her. I can’t want more than just sex from her.”
She stared at me in stunned silence, searching for every reason in my words and decisions.
“If you want her to be more than just to warm your bed, then what’s stopping you, son?”
“Many things,” I confessed, swallowing. “It will be hard for my dad to accept her. That’s one big obstacle, but the biggest one of all is… me.”
“W…what?”
“You know what I do. What we Godlikes do. The illegal jobs. It’s bloody, Grandma, and this lady has had enough blood in her life. Yesterday I received the news she was abducted but now is safe, but… but that didn’t make me feel one bit better.”
“Cupid…”
“Ever since I was forged by too many trainings and rituals, the feeling of fear has faded from my veins. I have no weaknesses that much, but… Her love for me, her existence… it all scares me, and I am coming to realize if anything bad ever happens to her… I will never be the same again, and I don’t want to be that vulnerable.
“I am a man who works with danger. If ever I announced her as my woman, my enemies will come for her, and she’s so soft in my eyes… smart and beautiful and…” I swallowed, pulling the dread from my veins.
“And I won’t live with it if anyone lays hands on her. So it’s better I just try to forget about her and… and move on. I don’t want to expose her to danger, and what’s going on between us, the bond… it seems to be weakening me, and I don’t want it.”
She didn’t speak. Not for a long time after hearing my raw truth. Instead, she searched my eyes with so much tenderness, and her palm on mine grew even softer.
“Is that truly what you believe?” she asked at last, her voice soft but steady. “That her love for you makes you vulnerable? That being together… is somehow a weakness?”
I hesitated, my chest tight with unspoken fears. Before I could find the words, Grandma reached over and gave my hand a gentle, reassuring squeeze.

“It’s only natural, Cupid,” she said, her eyes kind but unflinching. “For a man to fear harm coming to the woman he loves. That fear isn’t a flaw. It’s proof of how deeply she matters to you.”
“But…” I started, the protest weak even to my own ears.
She held my gaze, unwavering.
“And the harder you try to push her away to keep her safe, the more it will tear at you both. Trust me on that.”
She paused, letting the words settle, then continued.
“You told me she’s already seen more blood in her life than anyone should have to. That you don’t want her to see any more.”
I nodded slowly. It was the raw, aching truth.
Grandma leaned in slightly, her voice low and firm.
“Then don’t just shield her from the world. Help her stand stronger in it. You’re a werewolf; you know what it means to train, to prepare. Teach her not because you won’t be there to protect her, but so you can rest easier knowing she can hold her own if you’re not beside her for a moment.”
She smiled faintly, a glimmer of steel beneath the warmth.
“Women draw extraordinary strength from knowing someone stands solidly behind them. especially someone they love with all their heart. As for the blood… if you truly want to spare her from it, Teach her not to fear it, but to understand it. Because the world won’t always be gentle, my dear. But together, truly together, you can make each other unbreakable.”
My grandma’s words sank deep into me, giving me goosebumps, and before I could gather a response, footsteps approached.
Desmond opened the door, bowing respectfully before our grandma. To me, he said,
“I found your wristwatch. The location is at Godlike Legal Empire.”
