The car stopped right before the entrance of the Crescent Pack, and Kashi turned to me, his voice gentle and tender.
“Go on. Call me immediately if you feel even the slightest discomfort.”
I nodded in appreciation and kept my fingers on the door handle, ready to open it, but then I paused.
I lowered the cellphone I had been pressing for a while, the one I had just used to text Cupid, hoping it would give me some peace of mind.
As much as I understood it was her right to return, I couldn’t shake the gnawing feeling that my brothers had allowed it, and even Kashi had gone along with it.
I looked at him, and he waited patiently, his eyes softened and expectant, clearly sensing I had something to say. But I couldn’t find the heart to ask the question burning inside me.
I lowered my gaze and prepared to alight, but his voice came first, quiet and reassuring.
“We believed it wasn’t a big deal. We wouldn’t have allowed it if we knew it would make you this mad.”
He explained it softly, and I remained quiet, stepping out of the car and heading into the pack grounds.
When I crossed through the gate, I overheard the sound of his car pulling away and departing.
A soft sigh escaped my chest as I made my way across the open space, eventually stopping in front of a tall building of apartments.
Crescent Pack.
From a distance, it looked like a nice and elegant building, but up close, the wear was obvious. The paint peeling off in places, the structure showing its age.
Crescent Pack was poor, and it was filled mostly with omegas who struggled day to day.
I made my way into the building lobby to see residents carrying buckets, heading out to fetch water from the backyard stream. I nearly groaned aloud at the sight.

I walked toward the elevator, only for a woman to call out from behind me.

“Oh, Snow? Is that you?” I turned around to see her, one of the residents I recognized. “Ah, it really is you. How have you been?”
“Fine, ma’am.”
“It’s been a while since you’ve come here. Don’t take the elevator. It’s been faulty these days. It’s best to take the stairs.”
Someone called for her from down the hall, and she rushed off, leaving me to gaze into blank space for a moment. I should take the stairs? My gods.
I headed toward the stairs and began to climb. Mr. Mane’s apartment was located on the top floor, and I was already feeling exhausted by the time I finally reached the hall that led to Dove Mane’s door.
Tiredly, I dragged myself forward and pressed the doorbell, but no sound came. I stared at it for a long moment before realizing it was broken. Rolling my eyes, I knocked on the door instead, but no response followed.
With a low sigh, I turned to the digital lock and input the passcode, silently praying they hadn’t changed it. My prayer was answered when the lock clicked open, and I sighed shakily in relief.
I pushed the door open slowly and quietly made my way into the living room, immediately hearing overlapping voices and the familiar chaos of the household.
I stood at the entrance of the small living room, taking in the daily normal life of the Mane family.
Then my gaze shifted to the calendar on the wall, and I realized with a sinking feeling that I had come at a bad time. Weekends were always hectic here.
Mr. Mane, Dove’s father, lay sprawled on the couch reading newspapers, while the sounds of Seris and Vaela came as they ran around playfully. I could hear bustling in the kitchen, which told me that was likely where Dove was.
I blinked in exhaustion already when a sudden gasp broke the air. I looked ahead to see Ylva staring at me in awe, one of Dove’s younger sisters.
“Snow!” she screamed excitedly.
Everything suddenly paused. Then came a rush of movement. Dove appeared from the kitchen doorway, staring at me in wide-eyed awe, and her mother emerged from the bedroom

Before I could even blink, the triplets, Dove’s younger sisters, those tiny, ever-so-troublesome creatures rushed toward me.
Before I could protest or warn them that I wasn’t feeling too well, they pounced, knocking me down onto my back as they covered me, giggling uncontrollably.
“My goodness. You’re here!”
“You will be staying for a long time, right?”
“Snow, I have so many things to tell you about my classes. You can’t believe we got a new teacher!”
Their words came all at once, overlapping in excitement. One pulling at my ear, another tugging my hair, until the sharp voice of their mother, Mrs. Mane, cut through.
“Girls!”
They pulled away immediately, and I sighed in relief before sitting up slowly.
They stood a few steps away, watching eagerly, and I finally spread my arms wide, inviting them in. They rushed forward again, and my gods, I had missed them so much.
“I’m still around. I know we have a lot to talk about,” I assured them softly, and only then did they wink playfully and giggle off to resume their chaos.
I sighed shakily in relief, wondering how this household ever coped with so much energy.
My eyes fell on Mr. Mane first, and for a brief moment, I wondered why he was here, reading newspapers so comfortably on a weekend.
I bowed slightly in greeting before looking up at Mrs. Mane and giving her a big, genuine smile. She came close and pulled me into a warm hug.
“How are you feeling now, my dear?”
“Fine, Mother,” I replied, smiling. “I appreciate the meal you provided the other day. I truly enjoyed it.”
“Please don’t mention it. Your father has done enough, and is still doing so much for this family,” she said warmly, her smile kind.
Then her cellphone rang, and she pulled away for a brief moment to answer it. A groan

followed shortly after.
“Snow, quickly go on and help Dove in there. We have a lot to cover today.”

Hearing that, I shifted my gaze to Dove Mane, who immediately crept away from sight, disappearing back into the kitchen.
I sighed and walked to join her. In the Mane household, I was never treated as a guest. I was family, fully and completely.
I saw the dishes halfway done and sagged my shoulders, turning to settle my gaze on her. But the look on Dove’s face was one of horror and wonder, which made me raise an eyebrow.
“What?” I asked, and she echoed back.
“What?”
I frowned before beginning to wash the plates.
“Viviana is back, and out of all places in the human region and werewolf territory, she chooses the Frost home to land in. She has taken over my bedroom, and I don’t even want to start with her so I came here,” I explained exhaustively, expecting Dove to rinse the dishes as I washed.
But instead, her eyes remained fixed on me, and I paused from scrubbing a glass cup to look at her properly.
“What?”
“I… I thought your brothers threw you out,” she said hesitantly. I raised an eyebrow.
“Why would they do that?”
Silence fell following my question, and I waited patiently. Dove looked at me again before murmuring, her voice barely a whisper.
“Because of Cupid Godlike.”
Hearing this, the glass cup slipped from my hand and splashed back into the soapy water. I looked at her in awe, wondering if I had heard correctly.
“What?”
“You went missing. Your brothers came here, and I… I had to tell them you might be at Cupid Godlike’s place.”

“Oh please…” she shivered dramatically. “You should have seen how Roc glared. Your brothers are terrifying. What do you expect me to say?”
My shoulders sagged completely, and my back hit the wall for support. I thought about it briefly, and it dawned on me that they hadn’t mentioned anything about Cupid to me when I woke up.
What could possibly be on their minds?
