My heart pounded wildly, a storm of panic and dark suspicions swirling inside me. I could sense the foul play as clearly as a shadow in sunlight.
The focus was supposed to be on Feroz, not Marlik, yet somehow Marlik was the one being lined up in the crosshairs.
Someone operating from the shadows was deliberately shifting attention, and I knew far too much to simply sit back and do nothing.
Feroz had twisted evidence before, turning an innocent man into a convicted murderer. If he was now redirecting scrutiny toward Marlik as a drug dealer, it meant a larger scheme was already in motion.
I flipped through the pages once more, desperate for anything I’d missed, when footsteps echoed in the hall. I froze.
The door opened, and Roc stepped in, hair disheveled from the scant sleep he’d managed.
He stopped short at the sight of the open file in my hands. A gentle frown creased his brow as he closed the distance and eased the folder from my grasp.
“Good morning,” I greeted softly.
He nodded in response, gathering the remaining papers. I knew I should stay silent, but the words tumbled out anyway.
“Roc… about the new case that’s opening…”
“I’m only assisting a friend from the Moon Tower.”
I went completely still. I knew exactly what that implied.
“So… the case will be handled under Werewolf Law?” My heart thudded harder as I asked.
He turned to meet my gaze, then nodded once.
“Thanks for finishing the reprints,” he murmured before walking out, leaving me stunned.
Slowly, I made my way back through the hall and into the guest room, collapsing onto the bed. Werewolf Law. Moon Tower. No, it couldn’t be.

I swallowed hard, reaching for my phone and biting my lower lip. I hesitated for a long moment, then gave in and dialed Cupid’s number. It rang… and rang. No answer.
After the ninth attempt, I gave up. Perhaps he simply didn’t want to talk to me.
Swallowing the lump in my throat, I headed to the bathroom to freshen up and prepare for the day.
Once dressed in something comfortable, I left the room and went straight to the kitchen. It was morning, after all, and routine called whether I’m bleeding or not.
I prepared breakfast for the household and was midway through serving when Father emerged from his bedroom first.
He paused at the sight of me in my old familiar role, the one I’d held before marriage, and a soft smile tugged at his lips as he took his seat at the head of the table.
“Good morning, Dad,” I said with a bright grin. “Your special chef is on duty today.”
“Then it’s truly a lucky day,” he teased back, and I giggled.
It wasn’t long before Roc appeared, already dressed for the day. He bowed to Father and sat, reaching immediately for his spoon.
“I’m running late,” he murmured.
“New case?” Father asked.
“Yeah. Criminals never rest, do they?”
Before Father could reply, Eshan and Kashi entered almost in sync. I watched them settle into their seats.
I’d lived with them my whole life, so telling the twins apart was second nature, yet their identical looks and mirrored movements still amazed me sometimes. It was almost uncanny.
“Hmm, you cook well,” Kashi said with a nod of approval. I grinned and slid into a chair myself, ready to cat, when approaching footsteps announced another arrival. For a moment, I’d almost forgotten she was back.
Viviana appeared, dressed impeccably and glowing with a beauty I hated admitting. She surveyed the dining room, bowed her head in greeting, and Father smiled warmly.
“How did you sleep?”

“Fine, thank you, Dad,” she replied politely, then turned to Roc. “Um.. I’m really sorry about last night. I didn’t mean to be rude or spill tea on your work.”
Silence settled briefly, Father, unaware of the midnight incident, looked puzzled, but Roc merely nodded over his shoulder, voice weary,
“It’s fine.”
I focused on my plate as her voice rang out again, excited, almost triumphant.
“Guess what, everyone!” I paused mid-bite, pretending indifference. “I just got an email from Godlike Legal Empire!”
I stiffened instantly, Godlike Legal Empire? For what?
“As a model,” she clarified, as if reading my thoughts. My face drained of color.
Cupid Godlike was the face of the men’s brand. Did this mean Viviana would become the women’s?
“How were you chosen so fast? You only just returned,” Eshan asked. I swallowed hard, waiting for her answer.
“I submitted my application yesterday, I was lucky I even met Cupid Godlike in person. We discussed. The CEO, Yenda, his brother said he’d stay in touch, and he did. I saw the email this morning inviting me to discuss terms and conditions. What do you think? Should I bring a lawyer?”
Tense silence blanketed the table. I shifted uncomfortably, heart pounding, bile rising at the thought, the reality that Cupid had spoken to her. Why?
“Maybe go today to discuss the terms,” Kashi suggested quietly. “See if they actually select you.”
“Yeah,” Eshan added. “Pinky applied once for the women’s brand at Godlike and got rejected flat. It’s an elite position. They don’t hire just anyone, let alone a newcomer
“I’m actually a supermodel, Eshan,” she murmured lightly. “And I’m confident I’ll get it. Working alongside Cupid would be amazing, right… right, Snow?”
I froze as every gaze turned to me. Slowly, I lifted my eyes to hers. She smiled sweetly.
“What do you think about me working with Cupid? You’re coordinating the charity with him. after all. Any thoughts on…”
”
“Nothing,” I cut in, surprised at how steady my voice sounded despite the storm inside. I met

her gaze and mirrored her deceptive smile. “In fact, I’d advise against it. He’s a very hard man to please.”
“Well, that wasn’t my impression yesterday when we spoke,” she replied smoothly. I held steady as she smiled wider, noting my reaction. “Surprised? Did you think he wouldn’t talk to me?”
“No,” I said quietly. “He’s not the type to chat easily with strangers. Yesterday, you were one to him. Cupid would stare, assess, stay silent… then walk away, leaving you unsettled and small. I don’t know what your first encounter was like, but that was mine.”
