It was the insistent ringing of my cellphone that woke me from

my

slumber.

Sleepily, I reached for the cellphone on the nightstand and answered it with a tired murmur.

“Hello…” I murmured, voice thick with sleep, and silence fell at first. All I heard was the low hum of a car engine. Then a soft, familiar laugh came through.

“Sleepyhead.”

Hearing his voice, I flipped my eyelids open at once, stunned to realize he was on the other end.

“Cupid?”

“I am on my way to get ready,” he said calmly. “A car is on its way to pick you up. I will send you his picture. He’s my man so follow him.”

“Alrighty,” I murmured softly, already feeling good, a warm flutter spreading through me. “Thanks.”

He didn’t speak for a while, and I wondered where he was going this early morning or perhaps where he had been coming from all night.

“Are you

okay?” His voice came again, this time tender and caring. I paused, blinking gently. “No cramps?”

I swallowed, nodding even though he couldn’t see me.

“Just horny, that’s all,” I quickly added so he wouldn’t think I was some kind of sex freak. “I… I don’t usually get this horny in the past when I’m bleeding… but…”

“Then let’s satisfy your lust today,” he said smoothly. “See you soon.”

He disconnected the call, leaving me stiff and paused in complete awe.

I blinked repeatedly, wondering if I had heard right. Did he just say… does that mean we will be making love today? But we are going to a parish. Goodness.

I sat up slowly, glancing at the clock to see it was already morning.

I got up to start the day. After freshening up in the bathroom, I walked back into my bedroom and stood before the mirror.

Slowly, my eyes fell on my hair, and I looked down at the hair ointment the stylist had said I should apply daily to keep it from going back to its normal wavy state.

With a soft sigh, I dressed up, grabbed the hair ointment, and walked out to knock at Kashi’s door. After a few minutes, the door opened, and Mirena stood there with her usual morning skincare mask on her face.

“I got you a Thanksgiving gift,” I said, holding up the hair oil, and she grinned widely.

“You don’t want it?”

“I have come to believe my normal hair is okay. Wavy all the way to rock,” I replied as she accepted it with a playful wink.

Truth is, I’d prefer my wavy hair back because Cupid seemed to love it much better.

I smiled and went into the living room, pausing at the sight through the window.

I could see my brothers outside on the porch, already discussing how to hold the party happening tonight, obviously.

“It’s a shame you won’t be here for the Thanksgiving party, but there are many years we will do it,” the voice of Sera came from behind, and I turned around to settle my gaze on her.

This morning, she was dressed in a white flowing dress, and her usual curly hair was parked up in a messy bun.

For a while, I wondered why a woman could be this beautiful, Roc was so lucky to bag such beauty and even ready to marry her before the year ends, but then again… Marcus.

“I have packed you some lunch,” she continued softly. “I don’t know if Cupid will like some. I packed some snacks too. What do you think?” she asked gently, and I swallowed, almost hating that I was doubting her.

She had been so tender and motherly with me. A true mother figure.

“I think Cupid will love it too. Thank you,” I said, and she flashed me a relieved grin, as though happy I accepted.

She rushed over to bring the backpack, and while I was waiting, the sound of a car riding up and double-parking came.

I frowned, wondering if guests for the Thanksgiving were already here, when the door opened and she walked in. Viviana.

I slowly looked away from her to avoid any fight this early beautiful morning, but she walked up directly to me.

“I will need the manuals, Snow,” she said, and I looked at her as if she had gone crazy.

“What?”

“The charity event manuals. I will need them.”

“And why will I be giving them to you?” I asked in confusion, and she scoffed, announcing boldly,

“Because you are looking at the real coordinator representing the humans.”

Following this bombshell was a blank look from me. Is she crazy or something?

I was still thinking when the sound of footsteps came, and Mirena walked into the living room, holding her cellphone. I turned to her.

“I just received an alert. It’s airing as news. The coordinator of the event has been changed,” she said in surprise, and that was when I went completely still.

It seemed to be real. Viviana. She closed in on me, waiting for me to hand over the manuals, but I shook my head firmly.

“It has already been fixed. I don’t care what the news says. I am coordinating…”

“Give me the manuals!” The snap came, loud enough that my father, who seemed to have just woken up, walked into the living room to see what was going on.

“How will I give you the manuals? Why will I let you be the coordinator when I have been on it for weeks?” I scoffed in utter disbelief. “Doesn’t that sound even stupid to your own ears?”

“I do not care, Snow,” she said tightly at me. “I am made the new representative for the humans, and I will be doing my job. You can call Ares to argue with him about the issue. That’s your problem. All I know is that hand me over the manuals so I can coordinate the event with Cupid.”

She was serious and not backing down, and neither was I. She had just mentioned Ares, and it all fell into place. Perhaps she had been to Ares last night to discuss it with him.

After all, she was my dearest sister who hated to see me smile. And to think she’d be with
