“What’s going on?” Kashi’s voice cut through the tension, and I swallowed hard, stepping farther away from Viviana.

Moon Goddess help me. I could barely breathe in the same room as her.

My brothers had already left the porch and come inside; Father stood there too, arms crossed, waiting for an explanation.

Sera had stepped out as well, surprise flickering across her face at Viviana’s presence, though I figured my brothers must have already told their women about her return.

I opened my mouth to explain, but Viviana spoke first.

“The coordinator position for the charity event has been passed from Snow to me.”

“And why would that be?” Eshan asked, genuine curiosity mixed with skepticism. “She’s the one who’s been handling it. She walked the red carpet last night with cameras flashing everywhere.”

Viviana nodded, undeterred.

“It’s because she is a werewolf. That’s the reason. So tell her to stop being stupidly stubborn and hand over the manuals.”

“Stupid?” I repeated in disbelief, turning fully to face her, anger finally breaking free. “Stupidly stubborn? Listen, I’m not handing over the manuals to you. Dad, this project has been on my table even before the divorce. Cupid and I have been working closely on it, even while I was at H.O.W.L. busy with cases. Today is the first actual donation day. Everything is already in motion. He called this morning to confirm my ride is coming. I’m dressed and ready, and she comes out of nowhere demanding a role I’ve earned through weeks of work? How is that even possible?”

“Maybe you should call Ares and have that talk with him,” Viviana replied curtly,

I glared at her, the tension between us thick enough to cut. We would never see eye to eye.

The fact that sh, this woman I’d once thought of as family, had been the one to ruin my first made bile rise at the mere sight of her.

coordinating with Cupid.”

She smiled, clearly relishing the challenge.

She opened her bag, dialed the number, and put it on speaker to prove her point.

“Hello?” Ares’s voice came through. That voice I had come to detest.

“Hello, Ares,” Viviana said sweetly. “Why don’t you inform your wife to stop acting up and drop the deal?”

I went completely still at how casually she referred to me as his wife. I knew exactly what she was doing and it was sad, infuriating, that it worked.

“Snow,” Ares said, tone patronizing, “you’ve been changed. Let Viviana handle the charity event with the werewolf representative. That way you can rest.”

I scoffed outright. They had to be joking.

I took a step back, pulled out my own phone, and dialed Cupid’s number. He picked up on the first ring.

“Are you

done?” he asked softly.

“I don’t think I’ll be able to come anymore,” I replied, pacing slightly, fully aware every eye was on me. “It’s Ares. He changed the coordinator overnight, replaced me with the Mooncrest daughter so you’ll be partnering with her. I just wanted to inform you. No need to send the ride, and…”

I was speaking quickly, anger boiling over, when he disconnected without a word.

I shivered, sinking onto the couch, knowing he’d work his magic.

It didn’t take long, minutes at most, before Viviana’s phone rang. She jutted her chin defiantly and put it on speaker, eager to show off.

“Yes, Ares?”

“Uhm… fuck… Vivi, let your sister handle it.”

“What? What are you saying? You promised…”

She stopped herself, careful not to reveal whatever deal they’d struck.

“You already appointed me.”

“The Godlikes are the real donors here,” Ares said, voice strained. “We’re only partnering. If they don’t agree to the change, there’s nothing I can do. Cupid’s the one who vetoed it and he’s a bastard about these things. Let Snow handle it, alright?”

I hid my triumphant smile, keeping my face neutral even as satisfaction flooded me. I’d known Cupid would make sure we met today.

After all I was his woman, as he’d claimed last night.

I was still sitting there when the sound of a car cruising in reached us. My phone beeped almost simultaneously, Cupid sending the chauffeur’s picture.

I adjusted my dress carefully and rose, walking to the window to confirm. It was a luxurious black car; the man beside it wore a pressed suit and polished shoes, tattoos visible on the back of his hand. Elderly, professional, exactly as pictured.

I sighed softly and turned to Sera with a small smile.

“My ride is here. The lunch, please?”

“Oh, yes,” she said, bringing the backpack forward. “Make sure you don’t starve. I included your favorite drinks.”

I smiled warmly at her.

“Thank you,”

I turned to Mirena, who grinned.

“I guess there’s no need to air any more news.”

I nodded.

“Yeah. I’m coordinating.”

I faced my brothers and finally Father.

“I should get going so I won’t be late. I’m sorry I won’t be here tonight for the Thanksgiving party.”

“It’s fine,” Father said tenderly. “Be safe. Call any of your brothers the moment you discomfort.”

I nodded, understanding his meaning. My shrinking brain episodes.

I swallowed, offered one last smile, and headed toward the exit, passing Viviana in deliberate silence.

Only for her to murmur, peeling open an old wound.

“It’s pity.”

I paused, frozen mid-step. Slowly, I turned to meet her gaze.

“What?”

“It’s pity,” she repeated, voice low and venomous. “Cupid, Dad, your brothers, their women, even your true-blooded family… all they feel for you is pity. They bend to your will not because they want to, but because of that night. That ugly night in the dark alley.”

My heart sank instantly. I took a step back. How dare she voice such cruelty?

“Stop…”

“Because you were raped,” she continued mercilessly. “Because you’re nothing anymore but a disgrace and a shame. None of them will tell you this truth because they feel sorry for you but guess what? I don’t give a damn. You’re a waste. No one will ever love you genuinely. Not your family, not the Frosts, not your husband who cheated because you’re filthy, and certainly no other man out there. All they’d want is to use you up and spit you out like leftovers from the notorious gang.”
